Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: FRIDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2021.

THEME: INVEST IN PRAISE AND WORSHIP.

MEMORISE:

Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Psalm 150:4

READ:  Psalm 150:1-6.

1Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

MESSAGE:

Many people miss their blessings because they have not caught the revelation of the power in praise. You may even have seen some ministers and pastors coming into the sanctuary after the praise and worship session has ended. When you ask them as they sit comfortably in their Church office if they would be at the service, they would answer “It is still the worship session; I’ll join in later.” Any leader who trivializes praise and worship would not see the need to help equip the choir for inspirational ministration.

Our Scripture reading for today is very instructive. It lists musical instruments we can use to offer high praises to our God: the trumpet, psaltery, harp and so on. The psalmist also qualifies the cymbals with which we should praise our God thus: ‘loud’ and “sounding”. Thus, we can infer that our praises should be as loud as possible to the Almighty God.

The story of King Jehoshaphat and his encounter with the three allied forces who had come to attack him also shows the importance of having well-equipped choristers. Beloved, when our praise to the Lord goes up, He sends down victory to the Church. Thus, we would not need to fight at all as He would always fight on our behalf. 2 Chronicles 20:17 says:

“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”

Jehoshaphat appointed singers solely to sing praise to the Lord (2 Chronicles 20:21)! How beautiful would it be if our pastors engage some choristers on a full-time basis to sing God’s praises whether there is congregational service or not. It yields result! An example is in 2 Chronicles 20:22. We must pay good attention to equipping our Choir, Christian orchestra and praise singers because they too are God’s ministers with divine power to deliver victory to the Body of Christ.

Beginning from today, let us commit to giving them the necessary support and investments so we all can praise the Lord effectively. Whether you are a pastor, minister, worker or member of the congregation, make a commitment to help equip your Church choir from today.

ACTION POINT:

Help to equip the Music Ministry of your Church. God will honor your investments and reward you bountifully in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 8:  HO, MY COMRADES! SEE THE SIGNAL.

1. Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!

Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

Refrain:

“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;

Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”

2. See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;

Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!

3. See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!

In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.

4. Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;

Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

DATE:  THURSDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2021.

THEME:  MAINTAIN YOUR IDENTITY IN GOD.

MEMORISE:

 How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?

Psalm 137:4

READ:  Psalm 137:1-9.

1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4 How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?

5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

MESSAGE:

You cannot win the battle of life, especially spiritual one, if you do not know who you are in the Lord. One great thing about the children of Israel is that to date, they are still identified as God’s own people. Many people who have fallen into sin have written themselves off, even when God is waiting to receive them with excitement, like the father of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-24. Beloved, as long as you are born again, you must always be conscious of your position in the Lord. 1 John 3:1 says:

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

When the children of Israel we taken into captivity at Babylon, their captors wanted to mock them by asking them to sing of the goodness of their God, even as they were in distress. The children of Israel knew the motive of the Babylonians and thus, declined to sing. This humbled their captors in a way, because the children of Israel did not cheapen their songs of praise before the Babylonians, who could have corrupted the songs. Sadly, many gospel songs have now been corrupted by circular artistes, and many ‘believers’ are responsible for this prevalent culture. This is why some unbelievers can naively argue that there is indeed no gospel music. They cannot be farther from the truth. There is music that contains the tur gospel of Jesus Christ, and this should be what God’s children listen to.

Rather than sing song of praise in Babylon, the Israelites sang of God’s vengeance (Psalm 137:8-9). If it appears that the enemy is gaining the upper hand in your life, you must know that it is not over until God says it is over. Perhaps you are being afflicted by the enemy because of sin in your life; turn to Jesus today, He is our advocate with the Father and has paid for our sin (1 John 2:1-2). Never lose faith in God’s mercy; do not take Him for granted by remaining in sin and thinking grace would abound. May you never suffer losses again, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me not to lose my confidence in You. Help me Lord, not to take Your grace for granted, in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMN 22:  STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS.

1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! ye soldiers of the cross;

Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss:

From vict’ry unto vict’ry, His army shall He lead,

Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey:

Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day;

Ye that are men now serve Him against unnumbered foes;

Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone,

The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own;

Put on the gospel armor, and watching unto prayer,

Where calls the voice of duty, be never wanting there.

4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! the strife will not be long;

This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song;

To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be;

He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE:  WEDNESDAY 8TH DECEMBER 2021.

THEME:  BLESSINGS OF UNITY.

MEMORISE:

For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

1 John 3:11

READ:  Psalm 133:1-3.

1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

MESSAGE:

In our devotional today, we will consider the blessings of unity, which have been identified in the Scriptures to include joy, peace, and progress.

When you go through the Bible reading of today, you will observe the Psalmist lamenting, almost in despair. Perhaps this was so because he had seen how elusive unity was among the brethren, even in his time.

Today, despite the fact that we say “united we stand; divided we fall” in in words, sing it in songs and rehearse it in poems, there are still divisions among us. Sadly, this is also the case among believers who should be the leading lights for this dark world. This is the reason joy, peace and progress have eluded so many believers today. This is why, as a Church, we have not been able to accomplish the Great Commission as effectively as we desire. How can two missionaries commissioned by the same organization to the same field of operation not be united? Sadly, this is the state of the Body of Christ in many places today. Believers now fall prey to the enemy, becoming casualties of this disunity. If the Body of Christ can work together in unity, today’s Bible reading says our blessing are guaranteed. The subject of unity is so important that our Lord Jesus Christ spent time praying about it in John’s gospel. John 17:21,26:

“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me….And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

The absence of love is a major cause of disunity. Jesus however, has prayed about this too. We see that in today’s memory verse. Beloved, let us begin to work towards the fulfilment of our Lord’s prayer, so that the Church can make headway in our missionary and evangelistic endeavors. Let us love- not in words alone, but also in deed. This way, we will maintain unity.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please let love- Your love, fill the hearts of all Your children and unite us all, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: EZEKIEL 13-18.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 12:  IN CHRIST ALONE.

In Christ alone my hope is found,

He is my light, my strength, my song;

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace,

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!

My Comforter, my All in All,

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,

Fullness of God in helpless babe.

This gift of love and righteousness,

Scorned by the ones He came to save:

Till on that cross as Jesus died,

The wrath of God was satisfied –

For every sin on Him was laid;

Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,

Light of the world by darkness slain:

Then bursting forth in glorious day

Up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine –

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me;

From life’s first cry to final breath,

Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand:

Till He returns or calls me home,

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

DATE:   TUESDAY 7TH DECEMBER 2021.

THEME:  YOU WANT TO PROSPER? FEAR GOD.

MEMORISE:

Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

Psalm 128:1

READ:  Psalm 128:1-6.

1 Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.

MESSAGE:

The lack of the fear of the Lord has brought untold hardship to many people since the fall of man. However, those who have exercised the fear of the Lord in the past have fulfilled their destinies. Thus, every wise person must exhibit the fear of the Lord.

Joseph could have had his destiny cut short had he succumbed to the temptation of sexual immorality- an age- old sin. You would recall that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of this. Reuben also was cursed because of his sexual immorality with his father’s wife (Genesis 49:4). Despite how inviting the temptation was, Joseph feared the Lord and refused to take up the offer of sleeping with Potiphar’s wife. With fear and trembling, he declined in Genesis 39:9 thus:

“There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

You may be wondering how Joseph knew that sleeping with another man’s wife is a sin against her husband and God, considering the fact that the commandment to refrain from adultery was given much later in Exodus 20:14. The truth is that God has written His laws on the heart of man (Hebrews 8:10, Romans 2:14-150. This is what puts His fear in us if we have not been given over to reprobate minds as seen in Romans 1:28.

Joseph prospered because he feared the Lord. Do you fear the Lord? Do you question the spiritual authority of your Pastor? Do you still hide under the clock of a ‘clear conscience’ even as you engage in sexual immorality? Today’s memory verse says:

“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways; that walketh in his way.”

The practical way of showing that you fear the Lord is by trembling at His word. Isaiah 66:2 says:

“For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”

I encourage you today to fear the Lord and abstain from all evil. As you do, God Himself will prosper you in all your ways, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please instill Your fear in me and prosper me the way only You can, in Jesus’ name.

Though the eyes of sinful man Thy glory may not see

Lord, only Thou art holy and there is none beside Thee

Perfect in power, in love and purity

All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea
