Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY JUNE 19TH, 2022.

THEME: FATHER, WHERE ARE YOU? I.

MEMORISE:

All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.

Genesis 49:28

READ: Genesis 18:19

19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

MESSAGE

Today is the day we celebrate fathers, I therefore say to all fathers reading this: congratulations. To every man who is married and trusting God to become a father soon, in 9 months’ time, you and your wife would have been blessed with your own biological child, in Jesus’ name.

A father is a custodian of the destiny of his child. While mothers spend a lot of time with the children, raising them in the way of the Lord, there is this power that God has placed in the father to decide where the child will end up. The protection and final destination of a child is in the decisions and words of the father. The child bears the name of the father and whatever curses are in the lineage of the father will continue in the children if the man does not cancel them.

Sarah, Abraham’s wife was barren for many years before God finally gave her Isaac. Isaac’s wife Rebecca was also barren for several years before God finally gave here Jacob and Esau. The wife whom Jacob loved – Racheal was also barren for several years before God finally gave her Joseph. Thank God that Jacob wrestled with God and his name was changed to Israel. Dear brother, you cannot afford to pass generational curses to your children, rather you should be passing blessings to them.

Children, especially sons, tend to grow up to be just like their father, hence that popular saying “Like father, like son”. King David was a great king, but he did not discipline his children. In 1 Kings 1:6, we see how David raised his children.

And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why has thou done so?

When his children were grown and he started to see how they were misbehaving, he realized that he had left his children untrained and he regretted it. That is why when Solomon was born, he trained the boy. Solomon  said in  Proverbs 4:4 that his father trained him. It is God’s expectation that fathers must command their children to serve Him (Genesis 18:19. Are you committed to leading your children in the right direction?

Remember that your sons will carry your name forever and how your daughters behave in their matrimonial homes will be linked back to you. Invest yourself in them more than in your business or career.

ACTION POINT

Lay your hands on your children if they are close to you or call them on the phone if they are far away and bless them from your heart.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 49- 51

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 10: JESUS MY LORD MY GOD MY ALL

1 Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,

hear me, blest Savior, when I call;

hear me, and from thy dwelling place

pour down the riches of thy grace.

Refrain:

Jesus, my Lord, I thee adore;

O make me love thee more and more.

2 Jesus, too late I thee have sought;

how can I love thee as I ought?

And how extol thy matchless fame,

the glorious beauty of thy name?

3 Jesus, what didst thou find in me

that thou hast dealt so lovingly?

How great the joy that thou hast brought,

so far exceeding hope or thought!

4 Jesus, of thee shall be my song;

to thee my heart and soul belong;

all that I have or am is thine,

and thou, blest Savior, thou art mine.

THEME: LOVE AND SUBMISSION IN MARRIAGE II

MEMORISE:

And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

2 Corinthians 10:6

READ: Ephesians 5:22 -24

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

MESSAGE

We ascertained yesterday that wives are meant to be submissive to their husbands as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22). However, a wife may not be submissive to her husband if the man himself is not submissive to God. 1 Corinthians 11:3 tells us that there is a chain of command to follow.

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

If a man has not submitted to God as the Church has submitted to Christ, then he has broken the chain and his wife may also just not submit to him. One thing I know from the Scripture is that even if a wife is the devil himself, once the husband submits to God. The wife will eventually submit to him in turn. It is a spiritual principle. If you don’t believe me, read James 4:7:

Submit  yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

It says that if you submit to God, even the devil will obey you. If you tell him “run”, he will run. If you are a husband I know your wife cannot be worse than the devil, so definitely, if you submit to God, that woman will do the same to you.

Submitting to God also means allowing Him to guide you when it comes to relating with your spouse and following His instructions strictly. God wants your marriage to succeed, so if you submit to and rely on Him to make it work, He will tell you what to do per time for it to be heaven on earth. He will guide you on how to show love to your wife and also guide her on how to be submissive to you.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5

The above passage says that you should not lean on your own understanding. Don’t try to get your spouse to submit to or love you with your own understanding. Submit to God, love Him, depend on Him for direction and your marriage will indeed be blessed.

KEY POINT

Submit to God and your wife will submit to you.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: FRIDAY JUNE 17TH, 2022.

THEME: LOVE AND SUBMISSION IN MARRIAGE I.

MEMORISE:

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Ephesians 5:28

READ: Ephesians 5:21 -33

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

MESSAGE

Many men complain that their wives are not submissive to them. I have been married for over fifty-four years now, and I have also been privileged to be used by God to help resolve many marital issues from experience and the word of God.

In a Christian marriage, wives are required to be submissive to their husbands as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22). However, over the years I have observed a number of reasons why some wives find it difficult to submit to their husbands. The first is if a wife does not feel loved, I want you to take note that I did not say, “If she is not loved”, but rather said, “If she does not feel loved”. You cannot love somebody the way you want; you have to love them the way they want, for them to feel loved. If a wife does not feel loved, she would most likely struggle with reciprocating with submission as the Bible says.

Understand you wife and get to know what makes her feel loved. Some men think that merely buying gifts would show love, whereas their wives just want to spend time with them. Not all the time a man spends with his wife should be for prayers; some of the time should be just to play. Many people see me as a very serious person, but behind closed doors with my wife, I play a lot. I enjoy spending time with my wife so much. One day, after just arriving in America, I went to our room, only to discover that my wife went to another part of the house. When she still hadn’t returned to our room after a while, I went looking for her. One of the people in the house asked, “Daddy, why are you looking for Mummy so much, weren’t you together all through the flight? Didn’t she just leave you a few minutes ago?” I told him jokingly to mind his business.

During the day, put a call through to her every now and then just to let her know that you are thinking of her. Those who travel with me know that it doesn’t matter how far from home I am or how busy I am wherever I have gone, I must speak to my wife every single day. I tell her constantly that I love her and so it is easy for her to submit.

Women would naturally find it difficult to submit to someone who does not love them. Please think of what you can do to show your wife that you love her and do it consistently.

ACTION POINT

I want you to have a meeting with your spouse this morning , ask him or her if he or she feels loved, then ask for what you can start doing to demonstrate your love.

THEME: DON'T INTERFERE WITH GOD'S PLAN

MEMORISE:

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:9

READ: Matthew 26:39 -42

39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

MESSAGE

Occasionally, what God has for your life may contradict everything you want, but He is your manufacturer, He made you for a certain purpose and whether you believe it or not, fulfilling that purpose is the best thing that can ever happen to you. When my Father-in-the-Lord mentioned to me, after he returned from a trip to Israel, that God told him to ordain me, my wife and I fasted for fourteen days, praying that God would not let that happen. At that time, my monthly salary was more than the entire income of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. I had just escaped poverty and I did not want to go back to it.  Today, I thank God that He didn’t answer that prayer - not because of prosperity, but because of the joy of seeing how many people are blessed. There are certain things money cannot buy. Don’t interfere with God’s plan for your life, let His will be done. Be like David who said in Psalm 31:15:

My times are in thy hand…

Don’t interfere with God’s plan for your children. You may have plans for your child, but you must recognize that you did not make him or her - God did and He had a purpose for bringing that child into the world. Why don’t you pray and ask God what His plan for your child is? You can then guide the child correctly in fulfilling God’s purpose for his or her life. I know of a person whose mother said, “My child must be an engineer”. The boy spent several years in the Faculty of Engineering and just kept on failing, so he was asked to withdraw. He then decided to transfer to another faculty. His mother insisted that if he could not be an engineer, he should be an architect, so he moved to architecture. The boy kept on saying he wanted to be an artist, but the mother insisted that an architect also draws. He spent more than 8 years in the university and left with nothing.

Don’t interfere with God’s plan - either for yourself or your children. Don’t let those childhood dreams of yours that you could not fulfil dictate what your child should become. Don’t let your desire to boast amongst your friends dictate the destiny of your child; let God and God alone determine what that child will become. Ask God for His plan for that child and don’t interfere with it.

PRAYER POINT

Father, my times and those of my children are in your hands, Lord. Do with us as you please and help us to fulfill your plans for our lives in Jesus name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 40-42

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 28: HYMN 28: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

1 When we walk with the Lord

in the light of his word,

what a glory he sheds on our way!

While we do his good will,

he abides with us still,

and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,

not a sorrow we share,

but our toil he doth richly repay;

not a grief or a loss,

not a frown or a cross,

but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove

the delights of his love

until all on the altar we lay;

for the favor he shows,

for the joy he bestows,

are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet

we will sit at his feet,

or we'll walk by his side in the way;

what he says we will do,

where he sends we will go;

never fear, only trust and obey.
