37 Isaac said to Esau, “I have made Jacob your master and have declared that all his brothers will be his servants. I have guaranteed him an abundance of grain and wine—what is left for me to give you, my son?”

38 Esau pleaded, “But do you have only one blessing? Oh my father, bless me, too!” Then Esau broke down and wept.

39 Finally, his father, Isaac, said to him, “You will live away from the richness of the earth, and away from the dew of the heaven above.

40 You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. But when you decide to break free, you will shake his yoke from your neck.”

MESSAGE 

We discussed fruitfulness as a proof of dominion yesterday. Today we shall look at various means by which we can be fruitful and have dominion. Hard work is one of the major means of fruitfulness. The Bible says, "The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want" (Proverbs 21:5). Laziness is not a Christian virtue. As a matter of fact, the Bible says "...this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

Diligence is so potent that it can be rightly said that nothing shall be impossible for the diligent. Dominion through diligence destroyed the yoke of Jacob on the neck of his careless brother, Esau. Even after he had lost his blessing to Jacob, Esau insisted that the father should give him the leftover of the blessings which his brother took from him.

On Jacob's return journey to his father's house, he was met with Esau who already had dominion. It is interesting to read that the man who got the blessing through crooked means was trembling before the one he had cheated of it.

And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced  him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and wept.

Genesis 33:3-4

The wives and children of Jacob came in succession to greet and bow before Esau. When Jacob tried to bribe his way into having peace with his brother the second time, the brother said he did not need Jacob's wealth. This is because he himself was already blessed to the extent that he had a personal army of four hundred men. (Genesis 33:8-11). Esau told Jacob he had enough; this was from a leftover blessing.

Diligence indeed leads to greatness, which in turn leads to dominion. Commit to being diligent in all you do (Ecclesiastes 9:10) and you will indeed have dominion.

PRAYER POINT:

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. 

John 15:16

READ: John 15:1- 8

1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.

2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you.

4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.

7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

MESSAGE:

How can we know that someone has dominion? To prove that you have dominion, you must have something to show for it. Kings are known in their domain by their possessions. In other words, productivity and fruitfulness are proof of dominion.

The story was told of two friends who asked a seer to foretell their future and one was told he would be king while the other was told he would die a pauper. The one who was told that he would become king went home rejoicing and stopped working from that day. Meanwhile, the other man who was told that he would die a pauper went into the jungle and began to cultivate a farm. Some years later, there was a terrible famine in the land and as people were scouting around for food, they stumbled upon the huge farmland of this determined young man. They begged him to give them large supplies of food so that the townspeople would not die of hunger. This man agreed to give them food that would last the period of famine, on one condition. The condition was that they would make him their king. The people agreed and he was made king. The proof of his dominion as the king was in his ability to feed the people, even in the midst of the famine.

In our memory verse today, our Lord Jesus Christ said that the proof of dominion is fruitfulness. He stated clearly that when we bear fruit and our fruit abide, God will give unto us whatsoever we ask for in His name (John 15:16). That is dominion.

This is a pointer to the fact that only an achiever could say he or she has dominion. You can only achieve if you have God as your Ally because the Bible says that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders build in vain (Psalm 127:1).

To truly have dominion, connect with the Almighty God today.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please cause me to be fruitful from now on and establish my dominion before the whole world, in the mighty name of Jesus.

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. 

Proverbs 10:1 

READ: 1 Kings 3:16 -21

16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.

17 And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

19 And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.

20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.

MESSAGE:

Today is Mother's Day and I pray that for every mother, your labour of love over your children will not go unrewarded in Jesus name. Mothers are very special people because of how passionate they are about their children. I have always said it: I am where I am to day because of the grace of God and the prayers of my mother. The prayers she constantly used to say then was that many others would respond when I called  on one person. In other words, her prayer was that I would be so influential that everyone would want to answer when I called.

A mother that does her duties right will set her children on the part towards fulfilling God's plan for their lives. In Matthew 20:20-21, the mother of James and John came to plead with Jesus that her children should be seated beside Him in heaven; it's no wonder these two were among the three closest to Jesus when He was on earth.

Mothers are pivotal to the fulfillment of the destinies of their children. It is however unfortunate that many mothers are so carried away by the things of this world that they forget their role in interceding for their children.

In our Bible reading today, one mother was sleeping so deeply that she killed her own baby.The other was also sleeping so deeply that her child was exchanged right under her nose without her knowledge. Thank God she awoke to fight back for her child. This tells us that if a mother is sleeping spiritually, she could kill her own children. If she is not prayerful and does not invest her time in raising them diligently, their destinies could be truncated right under her watch. When a mother would rather sleep than pray at night for her children, she is indirectly killing their destinies.

I pray that a generation of mothers would arise- a generation that would not take with levity the destinies of their children, a generation that would commit to ensuring that their children live to fulfill God's plan for their lives. 

Mothers, awake and prayerfully fight for the actualization of your children's destinies.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SATURDAY MARCH 26, 2022

THEME: DOMINION III

MEMORISE: 

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 

Proverbs 4:7

READ: Deuteronomy 34:9 

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.

MESSAGE

Today, we shall continue to examine the subject of dominion. This time we are looking at dominion through divine wisdom which is the correct application of divine knowledge. Our memory verse describes wisdom as the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7). Why is wisdom so important and correlated with dominion? The Bible says, "For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it" (Ecclesiastes 7:12). The Bible further says "Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city" (Ecclesiastes 7:19). Furthermore, the Bible says:

a wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

Proverbs 17:12.

One secret of the choice of Joshua as Moses' successor is wisdom, according to our text for today. How did he acquire this wisdom that gave him dominion? The same text reveals that Joshua's predecessor (Moses) laid his hands upon him. In other words, there was a transfer of anointing for wisdom, from Moses to Joshua. There is a lesson here: Joshua served his master wholeheartedly and he got what even the elders of Israel could not get - wisdom, which earned him dominion as the children of Israel obeyed him. 

Joshua 1:1 establishes the truth that Joshua indeed served Moses. The problem with modern day followers is that they are not ready to serve wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, scholars and motivational speakers over-emphasize principles of leadership only to leave the principle of followership behind. The truth of the matter is that you cannot be a good leader without first being a good follower. Joshua was a good follower, servant and diligent apprentice in the school of leadership; hence, he had dominion.

Beloved, if you want to have dominion, you must be full of divine wisdom. This is why the Bible says wisdom is the principal thing. This is possible through a daily study of the Bible. As you study the word of God, the Holy Spirit will reveal wonderful things unto you. (Psalm 119:18).
