THEME: THE GOD OF JACOB

MEMORISE:

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

Genesis 32:26

READ: Luke 18:1 -7

1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

MESSAGE

Our God being the God of Jacob means that He is the God of love, because when you read Genesis 29, you will find Jacob to be a man who, because of love worked for fourteen years without pay. That is a great demonstration of love. 1 John 4:8 also tells us that God Himself is love.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

The God of Jacob is also the God of answered prayers. In Genesis 32:1-32, when Jacob knew that Esau was coming to kill him, he prayed all night, refusing to leave God’s representative and by the following morning (Genesis 33:1-4), instead of Esau killing him, he embraced him and wept because God had intervened.

Now, there is something we must take note of in Jacob; he prayed all night. The reason many of us don’t get our prayers answered is that we don’t pray persistently. The God of Jacob answers the prayers of those who pray persistently, those who don’t stop praying until He gives them what they want.

When you are cutting a tree, there is always that last strike of the axe that will bring it down. If you stop too early, the tree will remain standing and even get stronger as the days go by. Don’t leave that problem standing, keep knocking on the door of heaven until God solves all your problems and makes your joy full. It is Jesus Himself who said we should keep calling on God day and night:

And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Luke 18:7

Don’t think you are disturbing God with your prayers at all; He said in Isaiah 62:7 “And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”

I will keep crying to God day and night (I Thessalonians 5:17). I will give Him no rest until He answers all my prayers. I hope you will do the same.

KEY POINT

Give God no rest until all your prayer have been answered.

HYMN 26: WE ARE NEVER NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG

1. We are never, never weary

of the grand old song;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

We can sing it loud as ever,

with our faith more strong;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

Refrain

O, the children of the Lord have

a right to shout and sing,

For the way is growing bright,

and our souls are on the wing;

We are going by and by

to the palace of a King!

Glory to God, hallelujah!

2. We are lost amid the

rapture of redeeming love

Glory to God, hallelujah!

We are rising on its pinions

to the hills above:

Glory to God, hallelujah!

3. We are going to a palace

that is built of gold;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

Where the King in all His

splendor we shall soon behold

Glory to God, hallelujah!

4. There we’ll shout redeeming

mercy in a glad, new song;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

There we’ll sing the praise of Jesus

with the blood washed throng;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

THEME: THE GOD OF ISAAC.

MEMORISE:

That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

Genesis 22:17

READ: Genesis 22:1 -18

1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

MESSAGE

The God of Isaac is the God of laughter (Genesis 21:1-7). He is not just the God of laughter, but also the God of multiplication. Our Bible reading today tells us how God asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice and how he (Abraham) was about to do so before God stopped him. God later on blessed Abraham:

…in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.

Genesis 22:17

How does He multiply? In Genesis 26:12-14, the Bible tells us that when Isaac sowed, in the same year, he had a hundredfold return. This therefore means that the God of Isaac is the God of a hundredfold returns. When you look at the last promise in Genesis 22:17, you see God saying that Abraham’s seed will possess the gate of his enemies. In those days, the gate was the centre of a city’s economy.

This means that when the God of Isaac is your God, you will become so prosperous that whether nations like you or not, they would have to do whatever you say.

It is unfortunate however, that many Christians are not this prosperous and this is because they are not like Isaac. When Abraham was going to offer a sacrifice to God, Isaac asked his father, “I can see the wood, I can see the fire, where is the animal to be sacrificed?” (Genesis 22:7). Abraham said God would provide the lamb. The moment Abraham started binding him, Isaac know he was the sacrifice. Abraham bound him and laid him on the wood, yet Isaac cooperated all the way. If he had decided to struggle just a little, he would have won because there is no way a man who is over a hundred years old can hold a teenager down. However, Isaac was ready to give himself as a sacrifice to the Most High God. Only those who can sacrifice their all can enjoy the kind of multiplication that the God of Isaac gives. Solomon sacrificed what no man ever did and God blessed him more than every other man. Sow a seed that will really cost you – a sacrificial offering. If you want to be so prosperous that you will control the economies and politics of nations, then nothing must be too big for you to give to God.

ACTION  POINT

Give a sacrificial offering to a church, person or project that you are sure is for God.

HYMN 25: TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE

1 To God be the glory, great things He hath done,

So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

Who yielded His life our redemption to win,

And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

Let the earth hear His voice;

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

Let the people rejoice;

Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,

And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.

2 Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,

To every believer the promise of God;

The vilest offender who truly believes,

That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

3 Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;

But purer, and higher, and greater will be

Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.

THEME: THE GOD OF ABRAHAM

MEMORISE:

Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

Exodus 3:6

READ: Genesis 17:1 -8

1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

MESSAGE

In the memory verse today, God introduced himself to Moses as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In Yorubaland where I’m from, the meaning of the name of a man gives you deep insight into the kind of person that fellow is. Thus, in order to get deep insight into who our God really is, we well be looking at this introduction more deeply for the next few days.

What is the implication of the fact that God is the God of Abraham? It means that He is a God of blessings (Genesis 12:1-3). In Genesis 24:34-35, Abraham’s servant said, “God has blessed my master greatly”. Also, the name “God of Abraham” tells us that He is a covenant-keeping God. Deuteronomy 7:9 tells us that He is a God who keeps covenants and we see that clearly in the case of Abraham because in Exodus 2:23-24, when the children of Israel were suffering in Egypt, the Bible says that God remembered His covenant with Abraham. This was even long after Abraham had died. Thus, in Exodus 3:6-12, God decided to do something about the liberation of the children of Israel from Egypt.

The God of Abraham is the God of blessings. Therefore, if you serve the God of Abraham, then you are entitled to the blessings of Abraham.

Somehow, some Christians are not enjoying these blessings. The reason may be linked to what God told Abraham in Genesis 17:1:

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

God had made a covenant with Abraham for over 25 years, but it wasn’t until Abraham began to walk before God perfectly that it took effect. Genesis 21:5 tells us that Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born, just a little above 9 months after God told him to be perfect. Believe me honestly, if you start living holy, the blessings of Abraham will pursue and overtake you. Those ‘little sins’ you still commit will keep on hindering God’s promises from coming to pass in your life if you don’t stop them right away. Those little foxes are spoiling your vine; get rid of them now!

KEY POINT

Sin hinders the fulfillment of God's promises in the life of His children.

HYMN 21: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD

1 Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Through eternal ages let His praises ring,

Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:

Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises of God my Savior;

Standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

3 Standing on the promises I now can see

Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;

Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,

Standing on the promises of God.

4 Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

Standing on the promises of God.

5 Standing on the promises I shall not fall,

List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.

Resting in my Savior as my All in all,

Standing on the promises of God.

THEME: CHURCH WORKER OR FAITHFUL LABOURER?

MEMORISE:

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Matthew 9:38

READ: Matthew 9:35 -38

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

MESSAGE

It is not difficult to find Church workers, but it is difficult to find faithful laborers. The Church is constantly teeming with men and women who are interested in working for the Lord. However, the Lord is not looking for workers who only want to show the world that they are serving God; instead He seeks faithful laborers who will indeed be committed to winning the souls into the kingdom through their various services in the church.

In the memory verse for today, Jesus tells His disciples to pray to God to send labourers to do the work. Jesus is interested in people who will be committed to the saving of the lost. They are the kind of workers who, even if they are cleaners in Church, would be praying over each seat in the Church auditorium as they clean, praying that those who sit there would be transformed by the word of God. Such workers would pray that anybody who would attend the service that day without having given his or her life to Christ would do so before leaving the Church. Such people, as ushers, would not only be interested in looking good on Sundays, but praying to God to direct each person to the seat where the word can reach them without any hindrance or distraction.

People who do everything with one goal in mind will be brought into the light of Christ. There is the testimony of a man of God who died and enter into heaven. While he was on earth, he would conduct services, crusades, and meetings and there would be so many miracles, healings and such a heavy presence of the Holy Spirit. In heaven he was shown why he had always experienced such success in his ministry. There was an old woman who always followed him about whenever he was holding a service; she would begin to intercede for him until the end of the meeting. The woman was so consecrated to God that her prayers were always like thunder in heaven. Jesus attributed the success of this man's ministry to the silent labour of the faithful old woman.

God is looking for soulwinners, not just busy workers. God wants all men to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

Are you a workforce of the Lord? If not, you need to sign up today. If you are already in the Lord's workforce, make sure you are a faithful laborer.

PRAYER POINT

Heavenly Father, please make me a faithful laborer in Your vineyard in Jesus name.

HYMN 28: WHEN WE WALK WIT THE LORD

1 When we walk with the Lord

in the light of his word,

what a glory he sheds on our way!

While we do his good will,

he abides with us still,

and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,

not a sorrow we share,

but our toil he doth richly repay;

not a grief or a loss,

not a frown or a cross,

but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove

the delights of his love

until all on the altar we lay;

for the favor he shows,

for the joy he bestows,

are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet

we will sit at his feet,

or we'll walk by his side in the way;

what he says we will do,

where he sends we will go;

never fear, only trust and obey.
