Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE:   TUESDAY 20th APRIL 2021.

THEME: BLESSING FROM ABOVE.

MEMORISE:

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Deuteronomy 28:2

 READ:  Malachi 3:10-12

 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

MESSAGE:

From Deuteronorny.28:1, we see that God can decided to bless an individual beyond his or her imagination. However, God can also change His mind concerning the decision later. This is because divine blessings are conditional. You must be ready to honor God with your, life if you want to enjoy divine blessings (1 Samuel 2:30). You cannot claim to belong to God and still be flouting His commandments.

Romans 6:1-2 says:

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid….."

Deuteronomy 28:1 says you will experience upliftment only if you listen and obey God's commandments. In Malachi 3:10-12, God promises to pour out blessings on His children if they would bring their tithes to His storehouse. It took me a while to be comfortable with this Scripture; my background as a mathematician did not help me in this regard. In those horrible days of ignorance, before the middle of the month I would have borrowed money for fuel from my driver. I would ask myself "Who are these pastors deceiving?" I felt that if 100% was not enough for me, how then would 90% be enough? I thank God for helping me; I surrendered to His will concerning tithes and offering and ever since I have been receiving his blessings.

ln Acts2:39, Peter said:

“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

If you are not enjoying blessings from above, something must be fundamentally wrong with your relationship with God. I am encouraging you therefore today, to reconsider your attitude towards God's conditions for receiving His blessings. Remember that God does not need you or your substance; He owns you and everything you think you have. He works by divine principles as we see in Proverbs 11:24.

lf you would begin to live by the principles that govern divine blessing, your life would turn around for good.

 ACTION POINT:

Identify the areas where you have fallen short of the principles of divine blessings. Repent and begin to do the right thing from today.

 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 5-6.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 25:  THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

1. There shall be showers of blessing:

This is the promise of love;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

Sent from the Savior above.

Refrain:

Showers of blessing,

Showers of blessing we need:

Mercy-drops round us are falling,

But for the showers we plead.

2. There shall be showers of blessing,

Precious reviving again;

Over the hills and the valleys,

Sound of abundance of rain.

3. There shall be showers of blessing;

Send them upon us, O Lord;

Grant to us now a refreshing,

Come, and now honor Thy Word.

4. There shall be showers of blessing:

Oh, that today they might fall,

Now as to God we’re confessing,

Now as on Jesus we call!

5. There shall be showers of blessing,

If we but trust and obey;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

If we let God have His way.

DATE:   MONDAY 19th APRIL 2021.

THEME: THE CHILDREN’S MEAT.

MEMORISE:

But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. Matthew 15:26

 READ:  Matthew 15:21-28

21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

MESSAGE:

 Revelation 22:15 says:

“For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”

Miracles are the meat for the children of God and not for dogs. According to the Scripture above, sinners are dogs. Now the question is, “are you a child or dog?”

It is unfortunate that many people remain in the position of a dog when they can have so much more as children. One woman had kept another woman's husband un an illicit marriage. Unfortunately for her, she Still did not have any child. She had been going to different church programmes until one of my children-in-the-Lord told her to stop wasting her time because God would not answer the prayer of a sinner. He advised her to return the man she "stole" to his wife and then trust God for her own husband. That marked the beginning of a new life for her as a child of God.

Who is a dog from the point of view of the Bible? From Psalm 22:16, we can see that the wicked are dogs. Isaiah 56:10-11 described dogs as greedy. Paul the Apostle, in Philippians 3:2, also likened evil workers to dogs. In light of these, we can say that sinners who refuse to repent can also be likened to dogs.

On the other hand, those who are forgiven of the Lord are His children, according to Psalm 32:1. They are therefore the only ones who can access miracles. Psalm 23:1-3 gives insight into what qual1fies a person for miracles: you must first be a sheep of the Good Shepherd. Unless a sinner repents and believes in the saving name of Jesus, he or she will remain a dog. John 1:12 says:

" But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"

Get ready for a big miracle this season if you are truly one of God's children. If you are not, give up your pride, give up your self-righteousness and repent so you can be adopted by Jesus. Miracles are meant for children and not dogs. Submit to the Lord today and you too would have your testimonies.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, I need a miracle urgently. Adopt me into Your family today through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 1-4.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 16:  O GOD OUR HELP IN AGES PAST.

1. O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home.

2. Under the shadow of Thy throne

Thy saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is Thine arm alone,

And our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood,

Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God,

To endless years the same.

4. Thy Word commands our flesh to dust,

“Return, ye sons of men”:

All nations rose from earth at first,

And turn to earth again.

5. A thousand ages in Thy sight

Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night

Before the rising sun.

6. The busy tribes of flesh and blood,

With all their lives and cares,

Are carried downwards by the flood,

And lost in foll’wing years.

7. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

Bears all its sons away;

They fly, forgotten, as a dream

Dies at the op’ning day.

8. Like flow’ry fields the nations stand

Pleased with the morning light;

The flow’rs beneath the mower’s hand

Lie with’ring ere ’tis night.

9. O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Be Thou our guard while troubles last,

And our eternal home.

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL.

DATE: SUNDAY 18TH APRIL, 2021.

THEME: DIVINE CONTACT.

MEMORISE:

“For she said within herself, if I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.”

(Matthew 9:21)

READ: Luke 7:11-15 (KJV).

11. And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

12. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and much people of the city was with her.

13. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

14. And he came and touched the bier; and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

15. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

MESSAGE:

There are contacts and relationships that are highly beneficial to all parties. Such contacts leave those who are involved in perpetual joy.

On the other hand, there are some contacts that become the undoing of the people involved.

Divine contact however, means the contact between God and His created order, man inclusive. When God makes contact with a person, place or thing, that particular object of contact becomes special.

The object that comes in contact with the divine immediately experiences a positive turn around.

When Jesus touched the five loaves of bread and two fishes in Matthew 14:19 they multiplied and became enough to feed thousands of people as recorded in Matthew 14:20:

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they, took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

A touch from Jesus can uproot a genetic problem.

In Matthew 8:1-4, Jesus touched a leper and leprosy disappeared. A man who had been blind for more than forty years also regained his sight through a divine touch as we see in John 9:1-7.

Whatever the source of your problem, the divine contact can turn the situation around.

Beloved, the good news is that you can initiate a divine touch if you believe. In Matthew 9:21, we see that a woman touched Jesus Christ and she was made whole.

The widow in the Scripture reading for today was on her way to bury her only son.

However, Jesus made contact with her son that day and according to Luke 7:15 “…he that was dead sat up, and began to speak…” Today, you will experience a miraculous contact with your Maker and you will begin to enjoy the benefits of adoption in the mighty name of Jesus.

For you to experience divine contact however, you must study those who had this experience before. You however need to have unwavering faith in the infallible word of God.

Demonstrate this by having a high regard for God’s word and keeping to its tenets. The power in the word of God will foster your divine contact today in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT:

Position yourself for a divine contact by surrendering your life to God.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Numbers 34-36

HYMN 28: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS.

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear;

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer!

2. Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

Oh, what needless pain we bear;

All because we do not carry

Ev’rything to God in prayer.

3. Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged,

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

4. Can we find a friend so faithful,

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness,

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

5. Are we weak and heavy laden,

Cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Saviour, still our refuge,

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

6. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,

Thou wilt find a solace there.

THEME: SUBSTITUTED!

MEMORISE:

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Revelation 2:5

READ: Esther 2:1-4

1After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.

2 Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:

3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:

4 And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

MESSAGE:

From today's Scripture reading, we concluded that substitution can be negative or positive. To Vashti it was negative, however to Esther, it was positive. The replacement that is coming your way shall be positive in Jesus' name. Esther 2:17 says:

 "And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti."

Anyone who is able to install a king would also have the power to unseat him. Romans 13:1 says it is God who sets kings on the thrones. This is why anyone in a position of authority must be very careful not to offend the One who placed him or her there. Nebuchadnezzar is a classic example of someone who did not remember that the Almighty rules in the affairs of men. He did not realize his folly until he was turned into a beast.

You must endeavor to keep anything God has given you, to avoid being replaced. As believers, the story in Esther 2:1-17 should teach us some lessons. We must watch so that nobody would take our crown (Revelation 3:11). It is a pity that many so-called children of God are no longer holding fast their position of adoption, rather they are selling their birthright like Esau, for food.

Vashti momentarily forgot that she was a queen by virtue of the fact that her husband was the king. She flouted the king's order and someone else took her crown. To avoid being replaced, we must be careful to obey, every instruction given to us by our Savior, King and Husband - Jesus Christ, as we see in John 15:16-17.

The Scripture referenced above further enjoins us to bear fruits. When we do so, we honor and compliment Jesus' work of salvation.  However, when we refuse to bear fruit, we make His death a waste. Refusal to bear fruits could lead to one's substitution. May you never experience negative substitution in Jesus' name.

 PRAYER POINT:

Father, whatever will make me lose my position in Christ don't let me do it in the mighty name of Jesus.

 HYMN 18:  PASS ME NOT, O GENTLE SAVIOR.

1. Pass me not, O gentle Savior,

Hear my humble cry;

While on others Thou art calling,

Do not pass me by.

Refrain:

Savior, Savior,

Hear my humble cry,

While on others Thou art calling,

Do not pass me by.

2. Let me at Thy throne of mercy

Find a sweet relief;

Kneeling there in deep contrition,

Help my unbelief.

3. Trusting only in Thy merit,

Would I seek Thy face;

Heal my wounded, broken spirit,

Save me by Thy grace.

4. Thou the spring of all my comfort,

More than life to me,

Whom have I on earth beside Thee,

Whom in Heav’n but Thee.
