Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: MONDAY JANUARY 6TH 2025

THEME: WHEN GOD CALLS

MEMORISE:

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

READ: MATTHEW 8:19-23

19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.

MESSAGE:

Nowadays, many see God's call as a call to a higher social status. Even though God rewards those who work hard to please Him with influence and wealth, His call to service is a call to put Him first in everything. In Matthew 19:16-24, a rich man, who had been careful to obey God's commandments, approached Jesus and said, "Lord, I have obeyed all your commands, and I have kept all the law, but somehow, I feel that something is missing. What do I lack?" Jesus replied: "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." On hearing this, he became sorrowful because he had many possessions and obviously valued them more than following Jesus. Beloved, when God calls you, following Him must be your only focus, and you should be ready to surrender anything He asks of you, including your life (Luke 14:26).

Those who will heed God's call must see Him as their only source. This is why in Numbers 18:20, God told Aaron that he would have no inheritance among the Israelites because He would be his inheritance. In Ezekiel 44:28, God said that He would be the inheritance of His priests.

God is not against you taking up secular jobs (except He has specifically told you not to); however, He wants you to see Him as your only source. If God calls you, no matter how wealthy or influential you are, He will first take you through a wilderness to be sure that you are serious about serving Him and that you are not just serving Him for material gains. If you lose patience in the wilderness season and start going after material things, you are not fit for the call. This is why we have many half-baked ministers of God today; when God was building them in their wilderness season, they rebelled against Him and found alternatives.

Those who will be used mightily by God must be willing to trust Him wholeheartedly. Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Faith is built when you let go of everything you can rely on and focus on God alone. The good news is, after He has truly seen that your faith is solely in Him, He will begin to raise you up, and when God raises you, there is no limit to how far He can take you.

KEY POINT:

Those who will be used mightily by God must be willing to trust Him wholeheartedly.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: GENESIS 21-23

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 23: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

1 Take my life and let it be

consecrated, Lord, to thee.

Take my moments and my days;

let them flow in endless praise,

let them flow in endless praise.

2 Take my hands and let them move

at the impulse of thy love.

Take my feet and let them be

swift and beautiful for thee,

swift and beautiful for thee.

3 Take my voice and let me sing

always, only, for my King.

Take my lips and let them be

filled with messages from thee,

filled with messages from thee.

4 Take my silver and my gold;

not a mite would I withhold.

Take my intellect and use

every power as thou shalt choose,

every power as thou shalt choose.

5 Take my will and make it thine;

it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart it is thine own;

it shall be thy royal throne,

it shall be thy royal throne.

6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself, and I will be

ever, only, all for thee,

ever, only, all for thee.

Special Note.

These prayer points are not written by Pastor E. A. Adeboye, but by one of his, disciples, of Christ, who was inspired and mandated by the Holy Spirit, effective, January 1st, 2015, to start writing these prayer points, based on the Open Heavens Daily Devotional  authored by Pastor E. A. Adeboye.

Some of the prayer points are deep spiritually and may not be understood by carnal minds.

If you want to be blessed from these prayer points, you must first, surrender Your life, to the Lord Jesus Christ, Himself, by saying this prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I come to You with a deeply repentant heart, please, forgive me all my sins. I surrender my life to you, today, and, I accept You, as my personal Lord and Saviour. Please, come into my life and save my soul from eternal destruction in hell fire. In Jesus' name, I pray.”

PRAYER POINTS

1.Father, thank You for choosing the foolish things to confound the wise; for You do not choose by stature nor academic excellence but the one You love, You choose.

2.Father, Your grace qualifies me and not of my own works; thank You for loving me and choosing me among the many that You called.

3.Father, please, help me not to be slothful in whatever assignment You have called me into, rather, help me to be fervent in spirit, serving You Lord, in Jesus' name.

4.Father, please, as many that You have called into ministry, help them not to be lazy. Make them useful to You and for themselves, in Jesus' name.

5.Father, please, help them to be faithful in the little You have committed into their hands that they may be faithful in much, in Jesus' name.

6.Father, please, help all the workers both in the public and private sector to be faithful in the earthly work they are doing now, in Jesus' name.

7.Father, please, just as You helped Jesus that He did not lose anyone that You gave Him, help all our pastors not to lose any of the souls in their care, in Jesus' name.

8.Father, please, help all Your pastors never to be lazy but to work hard that they may walk in agreement with Your word, in Jesus' name.

9.Father, please, let them enjoy good health and divine provisions of all they will ever need to work for You, in Jesus' name.

10.‭Father, ‭please, as many that are faithfully working hard in their service to You and in their various works of life, help them to enjoy the reward of their labour and make them great, in Jesus name.

11.Father, please, help all our young men and women to learn from the ants, in working hard in their youth so they can enjoy rest in their old age, in Jesus' name.

12.Father, thank You for helping Your son, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye in all areas of life.

Please help him to remain fervent in spirit, serving You and help him healthy; bless his ministry, home, and family (biological and spiritual), and help them to remain a shining light forever, in Jesus name.

13.Father, bless Your son that You have been using to prepare these prayer points, beyond measures, and all those who have been rebroadcasting them, in Jesus name.

14.Father, let every challenge, hindrance and obstacle of getting these prayer points across to Your children, timely, and on daily basis be removed, in Jesus name.

15.Your Personal petitions.

( Philippians 4:6)

16.In Jesus name I pray.

(John 14:13-14; 15:16)

DATE: SUNDAY JANUARY 5TH 2025

TOPIC: WHOM GOD CALLS

MEMORISE:

“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.” - (Romans 12:11)

READ: PROVERBS 6:6-11 (KJV)

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

MESSAGE:

There are people who claim to have been called by God, but when you look closely, you will realise that they are only going into ministry because they failed at everything else. Today, I will be discussing some of the things God looks for in the people He calls into service.

Anyone who will receive the call of God cannot be lazy. God does not call lazy people. If someone is lazy, that fellow is useless to himself or herself. When you look at everyone whom God called in the Bible, you will discover that they were all busy people. Jesus called Peter after he had fished all night - lazy people don't work all night. When Elisha received the call of God through Elijah, he was on the farm plowing with twelve yokes of oxen before him (1 Kings 19:19).

God works with the principle He stated in Luke 16:10:

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

If you are not faithful in the earthly work that you are doing now, God will not commit souls into your hands. Jesus asked in Mark 8:36, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" In other words, He was saying that just one human soul is more valuable than the entire world. Therefore, souls are too precious for Him to commit into the hands of a lazy person.

God is not lazy. Jesus Christ said in John 5:17 that His Father works, and He works too. Since Amos 3:3 says that two cannot walk together except they agree, then you cannot work with God if you are lazy.

People who are lazy and want to serve God in ministry are people who want to eat without working; this is totally against the will of God. (2 Thessalonians 3:10) says that those who do not work should not eat. After God created man, the first thing He gave him was work.

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. (Genesis 2:15)

The Scripture above shows how important work is to God. Beloved, the next time you see lazy people claiming that God has called them into ministry, stay away from them because God does not call lazy people.

 KEY POINT:

God does not call lazy people.

HYMNAL: 12 - ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS!

1 Onward, Christian soldiers,

marching as to war,

With the cross of Jesus

going on before!

Christ, the royal Master,

leads against the foe;

Forward into battle,

see his banner go!

Refrain:

Onward, Christian soldiers,

marching as to war,

With the cross of Jesus

going on before!

2 At the sign of triumph

Satan's host doth flee;

On, then, Christian soldiers,

on to victory!

Hell's foundations quiver

at the shout of praise;

Brothers, lift your voices,

loud your anthems raise!

3 Like a mighty army

moves the church of God;

Brothers, we are treading

where the saints have trod;

We are not divided;

all one body we,

One in hope and doctrine,

one in charity.

4 Onward, then, ye people,

join our happy throng,

Blend with ours your voices

in the triumph song;

Glory, laud, and honor,

unto Christ the King;

This thro' countless ages

men and angels sing.

MEMORIES:   And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Psalm 40:3

BIBLE READING:   ISAIAH 43:18-22

18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.

                                                                       Message:                                                                                   Today, I’ll be concluding my discussion on letting go of all the old things that can limit God from doing new things in your life. I pray that nothing will hinder the new things God has planned for you this year, in Jesus’ name.

For 430 years, the children of Israel were in captivity in Egypt (Exodus 12:40). They were in bondage under Pharaoh and the Egyptians until one night when God decided to bring them out. God did a new thing, and a nation was born in one day. God is not bound by time or any other limitations around us. He said in Jeremiah 32:27 that nothing is too hard for Him to do.

God can do new things in strange ways that will cause men to marvel at His great wonders. It is in the realm of men that we say that there is nothing new; after all, Ecclesiastes 1:9 says that there is nothing new under the sun. However, God dwells above the sun; He dwells in the heavens and does as He pleases (Psalm 115:3).

Now, when God says that He will make all things new, there are certain things He expects from a fellow who is about to enter into His newness. As I mentioned yesterday, God will not put old wine in new wineskins (Luke 5:37-39). Thus, if you are going to enter into the new things that God has in store for you this year, you must be prepared to reposition yourself.

The question, however, is, how can you position yourself for the new things that God wants to do in your life? You can reposition yourself through persistent prayers. Jesus once told the story of a widow who wanted a total turnaround in her life. For a long time, she had been tormented by her adversary, and she kept going to the judge for help. Her persistent visits eventually made the judge to arise and help her. Jesus told this story to emphasise the importance of persistent prayers in changing things (Luke 18:1-5). Prayer births new things or levels; it is like a pot in which new things are cooked before they are served.

Beloved, don’t let the adversary keep you trapped in your old level. Cry unto God like the Israelites, and He will surely do a new thing in your life (Exodus 3:7-8). Engage the power of prayer to enter into the new things that God has prepared for you and your family in this new year.

                                                                       PRAYER POINT:                                                       Father, please give me the grace to be persistent in prayer until I receive all the new things you have prepared for me and my family, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:  Genesis 13-17

  HYMNAL:  BLESSED ASSURANCE                       1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!

Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:

This is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long.

This is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long.

2 Perfect communion, perfect delight,

visions of rapture now burst on my sight.

Angels descending bring from above

echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

3 Perfect submission, all is at rest.

I in my Savior am happy and bless’d,

watching and waiting, looking above,

filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

                                                                          DATE: FRIDAY JANUARY 3RD 2025

TOPIC:  ALL THINGS NEW I

                                                                     MEMORIES:   And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Revelation 21:5

BIBLE READING:   ISAIAH 43:18-19

 18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

                                                                          MASSAGE:                                                                 Jesus is a specialist at making all things new. For example, when the wine finished at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, He didn't only change water to wine; the new wine was better than what they had before. When Jesus stepped onto the scene, He gave them an entirely new experience, and the governor of the ceremony confirmed it (John 2:1-10). Jesus will do the same for you in this new year, in Jesus' name.

Jesus can give you a brand-new beginning. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, and all things have become new. All that God requires for everything in your life to become new is for you to surrender to Him. This is because, for the new to come, you must do away with the old.

When Jacob was faced with the fear of meeting his twin brother, Esau, after so many years, he had a divine encounter that changed his old name into a new one Israel. That change of name ushered in the miracle of reconciliation that he wanted because as long as he still bore his old name, he couldn't experience fresh miracles. God also had to change the names of Abraham and Sarah so that His promises concerning their lives would come to pass (Genesis 17:5, 15).

God doesn't put His new wine into old wineskins of sin (Luke 5:37-38). For Him to make all things new in your life, you must be ready to let go of the old man. You must surrender your old ways of thinking to be able to receive and follow His directions for your life. You must surrender your old traditions for His new culture to take over. When it was time for God to draw the Gentiles unto Him, God gave Simon Peter a trance to shift his old way of thinking. He showed him a sheet filled with the birds and animals he termed unclean and asked him to kill and eat. God wanted to change his old mindset so that he could accept the Gentiles into the church (Acts 10:9-16).

God is limitless. He can make all things new, but sometimes, our old wineskins stop Him from pouring out His newness into our lives. Beloved, as we still bask in the newness of this year, ask the Lord to reveal every old and faulty mindset that can hinder His new plans from manifesting in your life.

                                                                              PRAYER POINT:                                                      Father, please help me to do away with the old things in my life that are preventing me from experiencing your newness, in Jesus' name.

4 Take my silver and my gold;

not a mite would I withhold.

Take my intellect and use

every power as thou shalt choose,

every power as thou shalt choose.

5 Take my will and make it thine;

it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart it is thine own;

it shall be thy royal throne,

it shall be thy royal throne.

6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour

at thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself, and I will be

ever, only, all for thee,

ever, only, all for thee.
