1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

MESSAGE

The world has become such an unsafe place that everyone needs to move around with some protection. Those who are rich enough often employ armed bodyguards but this can never be sufficient. Some other people choose to go to the devil for protection but this would always land them into much more trouble. I recall the story of a boy in my village who was always getting bitten by snakes. We later found out that his father had taken him to an oracle for protection against snakes bites; that was the beginning of incessant snakes bites. John 10:10 says that the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. The devil is your enemy; don't be fooled when he says he wants to protect you. His ultimate goal is to steal from you, kill you and destroy you.

A woman once brought her four daughters to us for prayers. The youngest was 28 years old and no man had approached any of the to ask for their hand in marriage. After a little investigation, the woman confessed that, to protect her children from dying, she had consecrated them to ifa oracle. What she did not know is that, by so doing, she had simply given the ifa oracle new wives. We prayed and God broke the link between the girls and the oracle. The four of them got married within a year. The devil is your enemy; don't go to him for protection.

There is only one real source of protection that cannot fail and that is the protection from God Himself. Being the Almighty means that He is mightier than the mightiest. Matthew 28:16 says Jesus has all power in heaven and on earth. Phillippians 2:10  says that just at the mention of His name, every knee in heaven, on earth and underneath the earth should bow. That includes physical and spiritual enemies. This same God said in Hebrews 13:5 "...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." When He is protecting you, you can sleep with both eyes closed; no evil can befall you, because you dwell in His secret place (Psalm 91:1).

Those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High spend quality time with Him daily. They are the ones who abide under His shadow.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

THEME: YOU vs DEATH 

MEMORISE: 

Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling? 

Job 7:1

READ: Hebrews 9:27 -28

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

MESSAGE

Death is a very powerful enemy. It is so powerful that 1 Corinthians 15:26 says that death is the last enemy to be destroyed. That tells you that it is so strong that it would be kept to the very last. One of the reasons death is so powerful and feared by many is because it is a leveller; it levels everyone. The rich, poor, mighty, Kings, servants, beggars and everyone else is levelled by death. Psalm 49:10 says:

For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

Death is no respecter of academic qualifications or achievements when it comes knocking; it listen to no argument. Even Lazarus who Jesus raised after 4 days still died again. Whether you like it or not, except you are around when Jesus returns to rapture his followers, death will come knocking one day. In both cases however, the result is the same - you will find yourself face to face with God at His judgement seat.

What really makes death so fearsome is that it is permanent. In our Bible reading for today, verse 27 tells us that the moment a person dies, he faces judgement - there are no second chances, no opportunity to try again; it is permanent. That is why l wonder what people are thinking when they say they want to postpone their salvation or start living holy at a certain time. Many have said that in the past and died before the time they had planned to start living holy. They are in hell today regretting it now and for eternity.

You must ensure that you are ready for death whenever it comes knocking. Those who are ready will find themselves in paradise when death comes, but for the rest, they will be weeping and gnashing their teeth for eternity (Luke 13:27-28). Stop telling lies, stop doctoring figures so as to keep some money for yourself, stop committing fornication, stop sinning! When death comes, all these things will not matter anymore; at that point, all that will matter is if your name is written in the book of life. Surrender your life to Jesus Christ today and commit to following Him to the end. That is the only way to overcome spiritual death and inherit eternal life

REFLECTION 

If Jesus returns or call you home today, where would you spend eternity - in heaven or the lake of fire.

MESSAGE

Today, l want you to flash your mind back to when you first got born again. I want you to remember how excited you were about Jesus Christ then. Remember your disposition whenever it was time to go to Church. Remember how often you read your Bible and prayed. Remember how desperately you wanted to get closer to God. Now look at your life today. Are you passionate about God as you were in those days? Beloved, remember your first love.

I will never forget the testimony of a sister who didn't have enough money to come to Holy Ghost Service and decided to watch it on television only to discover she had no electricity man no fuel to power her generator. She said, "Devil, you are a liar. My God change water to wine, He will change water to petrol". She poured a gallon of water into the generator, laid hands on it and said, "Generator, in the mighty name of Jesus, start working". She turned it on and it worked until the programme ended. That is faith. Is your faith still like that, or do you now rationalize everything.

To, get back to your first love, you must once again go back to meditating on His word day and night. You must go back to spending more time with Him than you do with anyone else. You must choose to have His as the first person you speak to when you wake in the morning and the last you say goodnight to. You must choose to study your Bible and pray for long hours as you used to. Beloved, remember your first love.

One thing l need to warn you about is that God relates with us based on who we are and not who we were. He said in Ezekiel 18:21-24 that if a person has been doing good and then the fellow decides to become bad, He would forget the days of good and deal with the fellow based on his current disposition and vice versa.

Who are you to God now? The wonderful stories of your closeness to Him in the past do not matter anymore; the issue now is: how close are you to Him today? Beloved, return to your first love.
