Prayer Points:

1.Thank You, my Father, for the ability and the grace to do all things, through Christ that strengthens me.

3.Father, please, empower me by Your grace  to meditate day and night in Your word, in Jesus' name.

4.Father, please, fill me to the brim with Your Holy Spirit, and let all the activities of the flesh in me be completely subdued, in Jesus' name.

6.Father, empower me to always walk in the spirit, so that I may not fulfill the lust of the flesh, in Jesus' name.

7.Father, please, help me to put myself under the subjection of the holy spirit, at all times, so that after preaching to others, I will not be a castaway, in Jesus' name.

8.Father, give me an insatiable appetite for Your word, than for physical food;  help me to be more hungrier for Your word, in Jesus' name.

9.Father, as newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that they may grow thereby, empower me to desire, feed and meditate  more on Your word daily, that I may grow spiritually, in Jesus' name.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY 1ST MAY, 2022.

THEME: WHAT DO YOU EAT?

MEMORISE:

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matthew 4:4

READ: Matthew 4:1 -4

1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

MESSAGE

In the last two days, we have established that what you put in your belly must not be your preoccupation. In fact, Philippians 3:19 says that whoever does whatever his belly dictates to him will end up in destruction.

Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.

The question then arises-what should we be feeding on regularly? 1 Peter 2:2 says that:

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Your appetite for the word of God must be insatiable, just like a baby’s appetite for milk. You should be hungrier for God’s word than you are for regular food. The word of God should be a major part of our diet because he that is only alive in the flesh and dead in the spirit is as good as dead altogether.

It is the spirit that giveth life the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

John 6:63

The word of God is spirit and life. It is the real food that will keep you alive; feed on it daily!

When I was a younger Christian, my friends and I ensured that before we ate any physical food, we would first study the word of God. That is one of the major contributors to my growth spiritually. If you make the word of God your earnest desire, even you will be surprised at your spiritual growth. You will suddenly discover that you are beginning to think like Christ.

Which do you eat more – the word of God or physical food? Your desire must be for the word of God daily. One thing about the word is that it can never be exhausted. That is one well that never runs dry!  You can get a revelation from reading a passage today, then read it again tomorrow and the Holy Spirit teaches you something different from it.

Make the word of God your daily meal.

ACTION POINT

Make sure that a day does not go by without you taking time to study and meditate on the word of God.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 16-19

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 19: O WORSHIP THE KING ALL GLORIOUS ABOVE

1 O worship the King all-glorious above,

O gratefully sing his power and his love:

our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,

pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

2 O tell of his might and sing of his grace,

whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.

His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,

and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

3 Your bountiful care, what tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;

it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,

and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

4 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,

in you do we trust, nor find you to fail.

Your mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,

our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

5 O measureless Might, unchangeable Love,

whom angels delight to worship above!

Your ransomed creation, with glory ablaze,

in true adoration shall sing to your praise!

THEME: HOW OFTEN DO YOU EAT?

MEMORISE:

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

Ecclesiastes 10:16

READ: Proverbs 23:1 -2

1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

MESSAGE

One major characteristic of children is that they are always on the lookout for food. When you put something in the hand of a baby, the next  thing he or she will do is to put it in his/her mouth. Food is a significant part of their daily activities. If Food becomes the topmost priority to you to the extent that it is the first thing you think of every day, you are likened to an immature leader whose followers are doomed, as we see in our memory verse today. For such people, whatever is placed in their care is seriously endangered.

According to 1 Kings 17:2-6, God personally took responsibility for Elijah's feeding and only served him twice daily. This implies that God's standard for eating, especially adults, is twice a day. I remember the day l shared this message with some Pastors; many of them did not like my Bible study of that day because they were used to the concept of 'three square meals a day'. In addition to this, many people still have the habit of snacking just when they are about to sleep. This is not good for you at all, especially if you are to be in charge of  important things, including your destiny. As an adult, it is advisable that you eat only twice a day; that is what the Lord who made your body recommends.

As a matter of fact, those who are really serious about their destiny don't eat everyday. Paul the Apostle said in 2 Corinthians 11:27 that he fasted often. No wonder he fulfilled His destiny (2 Timothy 4:7-8). I am 80 years old now, and l don't eat every day; l still fast often because l want to fulfil my destiny before l leave this world.

In 1984, l was on a forty-day fast, lying weak on my prayer mat, when someone came in, saw me and asks, "what else are you looking for in life that is making you fast this much?" That was 38 years ago; what had l achieved then that someone would advice me to stop fasting? Look how far l have come since then. l'm sure it is clear that l made a good choice by ignoring the fellow. What have you achieved so far? Are you satisfied with it? You should only eat every day when you are no longer striving for anything more than you have already.

PRAYER POINT

Father, please don't let my belly hinder me from fulfilling my destiny in the mighty name of Jesus.

HYMN 1: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER

1 All to Jesus I surrender,

All to Him I freely give;

I will ever love and trust Him,

In His presence daily live.

I surrender all, I surrender all;

All to Thee, my blessed Saviour,

I surrender all.

2 All to Jesus I surrender,

Humbly at His feet I bow;

Worldly pleasures all forsaken

Take me, Jesus, take me now.

3 All to Jesus I surrender,

Make me, Saviour, wholly Thine;

Let the Holy Spirit witness

I am Thine and Thou art mine.

4 All to Jesus I surrender:

Lord, I give myself to Thee;

Fill me with Thy love and power,

Let Thy blessing rest on me.

5 All to Jesus I surrender:

Now I feel the sacred flame;

Oh the joy of full salvation!

Glory, glory to His name!

THEME: WHY DO YOU EAT?

MEMORISE:

Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

Ecclesiastes 10:17

READ: Ecclesiastes 10:16 -17

16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

MESSAGE

The Bible says that the main purpose for eating should be to gain strength, not for indulging the flesh, as many people do. Food gives strength; however, it can also make a fellow weak spiritually and  physically. When you see people who have become obese because they eat whatever the like and whenever they like, you will notice that they are usually weak. For example, such people will begin to pant heavily after minimal physical exercise. That is a case of overindulgence in food, causing physical weakness. So, if you have noticed that getting up from your seat takes longer and more effort than it should, you need to check your diet.

Those who eat for strength don't just eat anything; they eat what will make them strong. Fruits and vegetables will provide you with strength; eat a lot of them. Avoid eating foods with much sugar; they usually cause physical exhaustion. Some people say they have a sweet tooth, and so they are always eating sugary things. May your eating habit not land you in the hospital. If you ask any doctor, they will tell you that sugar weakens the immune system and allows bacteria and virus to multiply within the body.

If you eat for strength, then almost invariably, you would only eat enough food to give you strength. You would not only eat so much as to become weak at the end of the day. Some people like to eat much until their stomach protrudes; this is dangerous to your well-being. You should eat just enough to give you strength. When you are maybe 80% full, you should stop. When you load your body with too much food, you give it the task of digesting all that food at the same time and all that will definitely cause some weakness.

Anyone who does not eat primarily for strength will also be weak spiritually. How can you pray for long when your tummy is filled with pounded yam? How can you pray when you are  always feeling lethargic due to the kind of food you consume? It is for your own physical and spiritual good that you should eat, in moderate quantities, only foods that will give you strength.

ACTION POINT

Assess your regular diet and remove all forms of junk food, replacing them with healthy substitutes.

HYMN 28: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

1 When we walk with the Lord

in the light of his word,

what a glory he sheds on our way!

While we do his good will,

he abides with us still,

and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,

not a sorrow we share,

but our toil he doth richly repay;

not a grief or a loss,

not a frown or a cross,

but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove

the delights of his love

until all on the altar we lay;

for the favor he shows,

for the joy he bestows,

are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet,

or we'll walk by his side in the way;

what he says we will do,

where he sends we will go;

never fear, only trust and obey.

1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

1. Thank You Lord, for my community. Thank You for planting me in this community and for all my neighbors.

2. Father, just as You adopted Jerusalem to be called the city of God, adopt my community to become your own, in Jesus' name. As you stopped the plague from entering Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 24:14, let no plague or evil happening anywhere around the world come near my community, in Jesus, name.

3. Father, l pray for all the children in my community, that they will grow up to know and love You in Jesus' name.

4. Father, let this community be a blessing to my state and country, in Jesus' name. Let great things and great people come out of this community to make my country proud, in Jesus' name.

5. Father, l speak against any communal disagreement with our neighboring communities, in Jesus' name. There will be no riots or civil war in our communities, in Jesus' name.

6. Father, please preserve my community from all the corruption in the world. Please don't let this community be known for any form of corruption, in Jesus' name.

10. Father, please use me to bring revival to my community. Use me to win the souls of all my neighbors to You and to establish You as the Lord of my community, in Jesus' name.

11. Father, please visit every family going through a difficult, time in my community. Lord, visit them and calm every storm in their homes, in Jesus' name. Please raise helpers for them and let all their troubles be removed, in Jesus' name.

HYMN 26: WE ARE NEVER NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG

1. We are never, never weary

of the grand old song;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

We can sing it loud as ever,

with our faith more strong;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

Refrain

O, the children of the Lord have

a right to shout and sing,

For the way is growing bright,

and our souls are on the wing;

We are going by and by

to the palace of a King!

Glory to God, hallelujah!

2. We are lost amid the

rapture of redeeming love

Glory to God, hallelujah!

We are rising on its pinions

to the hills above:

Glory to God, hallelujah!

3. We are going to a palace

that is built of gold;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

Where the King in all His

splendor we shall soon behold

Glory to God, hallelujah!

4. There we’ll shout redeeming

mercy in a glad, new song;

Glory to God, hallelujah!

There we’ll sing the praise of Jesus

with the blood washed throng;

Glory to God, hallelujah!
