DATE: SATURDAY 2ND APRIL 2022

THEME: BY GOD’S GRACE

MEMORISE:

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Proverbs 27:1

READ: James 4:13 -16

13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

MESSAGE

One of the ways to know a true Christian is by what he or she says. When I see Christians talk about what they want to do or what they have done without any reference to the grace of God, I wonder how strong their relationship with the Lord is, John 15:5 says: …for without me ye can do nothing.

Grace is a gift from God that can also be summarily described as ‘God’s help’. You need to understand that without grace- 'God's help', you can do nothing. Even waking up in the morning is by the grace of God. You would therefore be taking the grace of God for granted when you begin to boast about the things you have done or that you plan to do without acknowledging the grace of God, which empowers you. In Luke 12:16-21, Jesus told the story of a rich man who had gathered a great harvest. In all that this man said, he did not acknowledge God who made that harvest possible. At the end of the day, all his boastings came to nought because he died that very night.

Beloved, please don’t take God’s grace for granted; it is only by His grace that you are alive today. It is only by His grace that you are where you are, what you are and have what you have. It does not matter how intelligent, strong or connected you are; if God were to withdraw His grace from you, you would soon realize that you can do nothing without Him.

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Psalm 127:1

From 1 Corinthinas 3:6, we see that human efforts without God’s grace cannot yield results, Paul can plant, Apollols can water the plant, but the increase only comes from God. 1 Corithians 3:7 says specifically:

So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

When you want to talk about something you did, always say, “I did so and so by the grace of God”. When talking about something you plan to do, say, “I will do so and so by the grace of God”. Always acknowledge the grace of God in all you do and plan to do.

KEYPOINT

Without God we are nothing.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Samuel 3- 6

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 10: JESUS MY LORD MY GOD MY ALL

1 Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,

hear me, blest Savior, when I call;

hear me, and from thy dwelling place

pour down the riches of thy grace.

Refrain:

Jesus, my Lord, I thee adore;

O make me love thee more and more.

2 Jesus, too late I thee have sought;

how can I love thee as I ought?

And how extol thy matchless fame,

the glorious beauty of thy name?

3 Jesus, what didst thou find in me

that thou hast dealt so lovingly?

How great the joy that thou hast brought,

so far exceeding hope or thought!

4. Jesus, of thee shall be my song;

To Thee my heart and soul belong;

All that I have or am is Thine,

And Thou, blest Saviour, Thou art mine.

THEME: THERE IS HOPE

MEMORISE:

For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

Ecclesiastes 9:4

READ: Job 14:7 -9

7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

MESSAGE

One of the major things I have come to learn in my decades of walking with Christ is that there is no hopeless situation with God. It does not matter how bad the circumstances are, my God can reverse the seemingly irreversible. In 2 Kings 4:1-7, the Bible tells us of a woman who was so poor and deep in debt that her creditors only hope of recovering their money was to sell her sons. However, in just one day, God turned her story around and she not only had enough to pay off her debt, she also had money to live on for the rest of her life. It doesn’t matter how poor you are now; I decree: God will prosper you, in Jesus’ name.

Your problem may be one of sickness. There is no one so sick that God cannot heal, I was in Ireland a few years ago when a Pastor brought a handkerchief to me to pray on. The lady he wanted to lay the handkerchief on was in the hospital and the doctors had said that she only had a 0.01% chance of surviving. I prayed on the handkerchief and the Pastor took it to her, My God then took the 0.01% chance of survival the doctor had mentioned and used it to give her a 100% healing. Beloved, it does not matter what report the doctors have given concerning you; as long as you can read this or listen to someone else read it to you, I decree that you are healed in Jesus’ name.

In the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we have witnessed several miraculous conceptions and childbirths. In some cases, the women were over sixty years old and some had been declared by medical doctors as unfit to conceive and deliver children. Sarah was 90 years old when she had Isaac. It doesn’t matter how old you are now, those who called you barren will soon be attending the naming ceremony of your children, in Jesus’ name.

God says in Jeremiah 32:27

Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

The question is “Do you believe that He can do it?” James 1:5-7 says whoever comes to ask God for anything without having faith should not expect that he will receive answers to his prayers. A song writer once sang, “Don’t give up on God because He won’t give up on you”. There is hope that all things will turn around for your good if you keep your faith active and live according to God’s will.

ACTION POINT

Do somethings today that will really show God that you believe. He can turn your situation around for the better.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR

1 Samuel 31 - 2 Samuel 2

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 12:  MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE

1 My faith looks up to thee,

thou Lamb of Calvary,

Savior divine.

Now hear me while I pray;

take all my guilt away;

O let me from this day

be wholly thine!

2 May thy rich grace impart

strength to my fainting heart;

my zeal inspire!

As thou hast died for me,

oh, may my love to thee

pure, warm, and changeless be,

a living fire!

3 While life's dark maze I tread,

and griefs around me spread,

be thou my guide.

Bid darkness turn to day,

wipe sorrow's tears away,

nor let me ever stray

from thee aside.

4 When ends life's transient dream,

when death's cold, sullen stream

shall o'er me roll,

blest Savior, then, in love,

fear and distrust remove;

O bear me safe above,

a ransomed soul!

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 26-30

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 8: I'M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY

1. I’m pressing on the upward way,

New heights I’m gaining ev'ry day;

Still praying as I’m onward bound,

“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Refrain:

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand

By faith, on heaven’s tableland;

A higher plane than I have found,

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2 My heart has no desire to stay

Where doubts arise and fears dismay;

Though some may dwell where these abound,

My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3 I want to live above the world,

Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;

For faith has caught a joyful sound,

The song of saints on higher ground.

Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: WEDNESDAY 30TH MARCH 2022.

THEME: HOW TO RETAIN YOUR DOMINION.

MEMORY VERSE:

And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.

Matthew 10:22

READ: Philippians 3:10 -15

10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,

11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!

12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.

MESSAGE

One truth that we must embrace as we round off our discussion on dominion is that it can be lost if one is careless, arrogant, disobedient or lawless. A classic example of someone who had dominion but lost it is the first king of Israel  - Saul, according to I Samuel 15:1-30. He was not only disobedient, but also unrepentant. He chose to enjoy popularity among the people but this eventually made him lose the desired popularity when God's grace departed from him. To his face the women of Israel sang that "Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands" (1 Samuel 18:7). Dominion attracts  fame and popularity; however, if care is not taken, these can make one los his or her dominion and eventually be left with nothing, thus becoming a shadow of his or her past.

Dominion brings about comfort but comfort when mismanaged can cause one to lose his or her dominion, as in case of David. The Bible says that at a time when kings were supposed to have gone to war, David stayed back to enjoy the pleasure of his palace. This was when he saw what he was not supposed to see, fell into a series of sins that brought a curse upon him to temporarily lose his dominion to his son Absalom. Thank God that he had a repentant heart and God mercifully restored his dominion to him (2 Samuel 11:15 - 18). The Bible says: "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsake them shall have mercy" (Proverbs 28:13). This might have made David write Psalm 51 which reads

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Psalm 51:1

2 Samuel 12:1-13 tells us of the tender mercies of God when David repented.

Beloved, let us be careful not to lose our dominion. To those who have lost their dominion, the good news is that God is ready to forgive if you would repent and trace your steps back to Him today.

There are people who never lost their dominion. Elisha was one of them (2 Kings 13:14-21). You will never lose your dominion, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me to be obedient to You at all times so that I will never lose the dominion You have given me, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 23-25

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 19: O WORSHIP THE KING ALL GLORIOUS ABOVE

1 O worship the King all-glorious above,

O gratefully sing his power and his love:

our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,

pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

2 O tell of his might and sing of his grace,

whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.

His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,

and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

3 Your bountiful care, what tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;

it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,

and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

4 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,

in you do we trust, nor find you to fail.

Your mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,

our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!
