Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE:  SUNDAY 27TH JUNE 2021.

THEME:  WHO DO YOU PRAY TO?

MEMORISE:

 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

Psalm 5:2

READ:  Psalm 5:1-3.

1Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

MESSAGE:

The Psalmist, in our memory verse for today, made a great discovery. He found that prayer is very important to anyone who wants to be victorious in life. Not only that, the Person to whom we channel our prayers is even more important. In 2 Kings 6:26-27, we see a woman who misdirected her prayer to the King of Israel when she was in distress. Thank God the king was wise, he redirected her focus to the Lord. We must channel our prayers to the right person. No wonder Psalm 5:3 says:

“…..in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

Luke 18:1-8 paints a true picture of where we should direct our prayers. Only God knows how long it took the judge to pay attention to this helpless widow. However, she did not relent in asking. Jesus Christ said:

“Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” The lesson we should draw from this is that had the woman directed her prayers to God, she would not have suffered from the insensitivity of the judge. We should however also learn persistence from this widow,

Beloved, to whom are you directing your prayers? If it is your pastor, despite the fact that he is God’s representative, you are missing it. Is it the government of your country? No government of this world can adequately solve your problem. The King of Samaria, in 2 Kings 6:26-27, was sincere enough to tell the woman who came to him that he himself was helpless. When we seek solutions to our problems from people, we are making a god out of them. Seeking solutions from people rather than God leads to disappointment. Jeremiah 17:5 says:

“ Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.”

Put your trust in the Almighty God who gives liberally without upbraiding (James 1:5); He will definitely help you.

ACTION POINT:

From now, redirect your prayers from men of God and you will never be disappointed.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Nehemiah 1-3.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 20:   PRAISE TO THE LORD THE ALMIGHTY.

1. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!

All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;

Praise Him in glad adoration.

2. Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,

Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!

Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been

Granted in what He ordaineth?

3. Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;

Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee;

Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,

If with His love He befriend thee.

4. Praise to the Lord, who, when tempests their warfare are waging,

Who, when the elements madly around thee are raging,

Biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace,

Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.

5. Praise to the Lord, who, when darkness of sin is abounding,

Who, when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding,

Sheddeth His light, chaseth the horrors of night,

Saints with His mercy surrounding.

6. Praise to the Lord, oh, let all that is in me adore Him!

All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him;

Let the Amen sound from His people again,

Gladly for aye we adore Him.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE:  SATURDAY 26TH JUNE 2021.

THEME:  RUN WITH PATIENCE.

MEMORISE:

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, HHebrews 12:1

READ:  Matthew 4:1-4

1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

MESSAGE:

A common weak point in the lives of many believers is impatience. Unfortunately, the devil exploits this. This is why the devil tempts believers to turn ‘stone to bread’ – meaning that he tries to get them to rush ahead in life without waiting for God’s time and provision. When this happens, the believer must react like Jesus in Matthew 4:4 by saying “….. Man shall not live by bread alone….” Sadly, not many believers are able to do this. We have seen married people go out of their way in search of the fruit of the womb, despite the numerous Bible passages that enjoins us to patiently run the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1).

Joseph waited patiently for the fulfilment of his dream and was rewarded. Two years after he interpreted the butler’s dream, he was still waiting. At the fullness of time, Genesis 41:1 says:

“And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.”

The Scripture above speaks volume s and our understanding of its depth will go a long way to cure us of the spiritual disease of impatience. “And it came pass…..” It does not matter how terrible the situation a child of God is passing through is, the promise of God is that it shall not last forever; rather the breakthrough shall come to pass! Psalm 30:5 confirms this. On this subject of patience, Jesus said in John 16:20, 22:

“ Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy…... ye now ….have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”

Jesus knows what we would encounter in our walk with God, that was why He already prayed for us in John 17:15- 16:

“I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”

Beloved, you must keep on looking unto Jesus, who through tempted, endured everything for our sake. As He was victorious, so shall you also be in the mighty name of Jesus. we are more than conquerors! (Romans 8:37).

PRAYER POINT:

Lord, please see me through the challenges of life. Help me arrive safely at the bosom of the Lord Jesus, on the last day.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 36-39.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 17:   OH WHAT A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL DAY.

1. O what a wonderful, wonderful day, day I will never forget;

After I’d wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Savior I met.

O what a tender, compassionate friend, He met the need of my heart;

Shadows dispelling, with joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart.

Refrain:

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul, (filled my soul)

When at the cross the Savior made me whole; (made me whole)

My sins were washed away and my night was turned to day,

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul! (filled my soul)

2. Born of the Spirit with life from above into God’s family divine,

Justified fully thru Calvary’s love, O what a standing is mine!

And the transaction so quickly was made, when as a sinner I came,

Took of the offer, of grace He did proffer, He saved me, O praise His dear name!

3. Now I’ve a hope that will surely endure after the passing of time;

I have a future in heaven for sure there in those mansions sublime.

And it’s because of that wonderful day, when at the cross I believed;

Riches eternal and blessings supernal, from His precious hand I received.

DATE: FRIDAY 25TH JUNE, 2021.

THEME: IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH.

MEMORISE:

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

(John 4:24)

READ: John 4:21-24 (KJV)

21. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22. Ye worship ye know not what; we know what we worship; for salvation is of the Jews.

23. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24. God is a Spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

MESSAGE:

It is sad that today, many people pretend to worship God all in the name of religion. They worship in the flesh but not in spirit and truth.

This is why Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5:

…Verily, verify, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

The message of Jesus in the Scripture above was to the religious people of His days and the founding fathers of the Church.

The message however still applies today. We cannot be in sin and claim that we are worshippers of the Holy God.

(1 John 1:6-9) says:

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Sadly, many “Christian worshippers’ today do not admit sin to be sin; they explain sin away and see it as ‘mistakes’ and mere social misbehaviour.

Hence, they neither confess it nor strive to live above it by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Paul, in Galatians 5:19-23, wrote extensively about the works of the flesh which include adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred and so on. If we would worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24), we must not entangle ourselves with sin.

Ponder on Romans 12:1-2 below and get the message the Lord is sending to you today;

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

You cannot be a true worshipper without the Holy Spirit and a sound knowledge of the word. Seek the Holy Spirit; also make time to study and meditate on the word of God.

ACTION POINT:

Commit to spending time in the presence of the Lord just worshipping Him, as led by the Holy Spirit.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Psalms 31-35

HYMN 24:TAKE MY LIFE, AND LET IT BE

Take my life, and let it be

Consecrated, Lord to Thee;

Take my moments and my days,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move

At the impulse of Thy love;

Take my feet, and let them be

Swift and beautiful for Thee,

Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice and let me sing

Always, only, for my King;

Take my lips and let them be

Filled with messages from Thee,

Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold;

Not a mite would I withhold;

Take my intellect, and use

Every power as Thou shalt choose,

Every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it Thine,

It shall be no longer mine:

Take my heart, it is Thine own;

It shall be Thy royal throne,

It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour

At Thy feet its treasure store;

Take myself, and I will be

Ever, only, all for Thee,

Ever, only, all for Thee.

THEME:   MY PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU.

MEMORISE:

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. PPhilippians 4:7

READ:  John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

MESSAGE:

Nothing tangible can be achieved in a chaotic atmosphere, organization, family or mind. This is why peace is very important. There are factors that can guarantee peace in the life of an individual, particularly a child of God. The first is genuine salvation. Sin brought about the trouble that man encountered right from the Garden of Eden. Proverbs 28:1 says:

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”

Thus, whoever desires peace must seek the Author of salvation, Jesus Christ. We see this in our memory verse for today, as well as in Matthew 11:28, in which Jesus says:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Apart from being born again (John 3:3,5), we must learn the ways of the Lord. He said that we should take His yoke of meekness upon ourselves and learn it through Him. Another thing we must learn is contentment, 1 Timothy 6:6says godliness with contentment is great gain. Many people lack peace because they are not content with what they have. It is unfortunate that many so-called children of God are guilty of this; they dabble in some ungodly acts just to gain the material things of this world. Believers must beware! As good as wealth is, it does not satisfy.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 says:

“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”

We can obtain contentment by simply enjoying the blessings of God as they come and giving glory to Him for them (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20; Psalm 103:1-5). Philippians 4:5-6 cautions believers thus:

“Let your moderation be known unto all men……. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

In this Scripture, we see other factors necessary to obtain peace. You have to be moderate in your lifestyle, without being anxious for anything. You must also learn to cast your cares upon God because He is more than able to take them up for you.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, let Your peace that passes all understanding rule my heart from today, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 23-30.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 27:   WE ARE NEVER NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG.

1. We are never, never weary of the grand old song;

Glory to God, Hallelujah;

We can sing it loud as ever, with our faith more strong;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

Refrain:

O, the children of the Lord have a right to shout and sing,

For the way is growing bright, and our souls are on the wing;

We are going by and by to the palace of the King!

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

2. We are lost amid the rapture of redeeming love

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

We are rising on its pinions to the hills above;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

3. We are going to a palace that is built of gold;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

Where the King in all His splendour we shall soon behold;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

4. There we'll shout redeeming mercy in a glad, new song,

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

There we'll sing the praise of Jesus with the blood-washed throng,

Glory to God, Hallelujah!
