Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL.

DATE: SUNDAY 16TH MAY, 2021.

THEME: YOU CAN BE RICH AND RIGHTEOUS.

MEMORISE:

“Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.”

(Proverbs 8:18)

READ: Malachi 3:10-12 (KJV)

10. Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

11. Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.

12. The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.

MESSAGE:

Many children of God have misconceptions about prosperity.

Some think that being a Christian means that they have to be poor, forgetting that God Himself said in Proverbs 8:18:

Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

Imagine God, our Father having the possession of riches and righteousness. This revelation counters the notion that you cannot be righteous and rich at the same time.

Today, decree that the power to get wealth shall come upon you in Jesus’ name.

Those people who think that wealth is alien to God run after the devil and he deceives them into thinking that he has wealth. The devil tried this with Jesus in Luke 4:6-7, but our Saviour knows better.

The truth is that only God can give you power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). He blessed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in their generations as we see in Genesis 22:15-18; 26:12-14; 32:9-10. When Jabez cried unto God in (1 Chronicles 4:10), God blessed him greatly.

Peter, the struggling fisherman, encountered the King of glory at the lake of Gennesaret, and suddenly he became prosperous, looking for additional hands to help him gather his bountiful harvest (Luke 5:4-9). This same God will give you power to get wealth today in Jesus’ name.

The question now is “How do we get this power to become wealthy?” It is simple.

Always worship the Lord with fear and trembling. Commit to meditating on His word (Joshua 1:8, Deuteronomy 28:1). You must also not forget to be like Him in your dedication to service.

God would only give His riches and honour to diligent people; you must never be lazy or idle.

Furthermore, you must keep His commandments in the area of tithe, offering and first-fruits, remembering the needy, the widow and the orphans (Proverbs 19:17).

Finally, you must live and spend your income prudently because Proverbs 21:17 says “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:…”

We shall be wise, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the power to get wealth and I will become a channel of blessing to the world.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Mark 4-5

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE.

HYMN 25: THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

There shall be showers of blessing:

This is the promise of love;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

Sent from the Saviour above.

REFRAIN:

Showers of blessing,

Showers of blessing we need;

Mercy drops ’round us are falling,

But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing:

Precious reviving again;

Over the hills and the valleys,

Sound of abundance of rain.

There shall be showers of blessing;

Send them upon us, Oh Lord!

Grant to us now a refreshing;

Come and now honour Thy Word.

There shall be showers of blessing;

Oh, that today they might fall,

Now, as to God, we’re confessing,

Now as on Jesus we call!

THEME: YOU MUST LEAVE AND CLEAVE!

MEMORISE:

“….For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?”

(Matthew 19:5)

READ: Ephesians 5:25-31 (KJV)

25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church;

For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

MESSAGE:

Marriage is a good thing when God is in it.

The Bible says in Proverbs 18:22:

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

This Scripture dismisses the wrong notion that marriage is an entanglement or a necessary evil. Our memory verse today reveals that the man must leave his parents and cleave to his wife.

However, it takes love, the God-type of love for a man to totally leave his parents and cleave to his wife.

For marriage to work, the man must strictly adhere to this twin-command – leaving (his parents) and cleaving (to his wife).

This love we are talking about today is unconditional – it is not predicated on whether the woman is good or bad. The moment you say “I do”, you are under obligation to love your wife as yourself according to our Bible reading of today which says in part:

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it;” (Ephesians 5:25)

“But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.”

(1 Corinthians 7:32-33)

The truth in the above passage is that a man is under obligation to cater to the joy and well-being of his wife.

Some so-called Christians are so careless about their marriage that they neglect the divine mandate of caring for the family – leaving the wife and children disillusioned about the faith.

To love is to care and to care encompasses the provision of basic amenities for the home.

The Bible says in James 2:18:

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

In the same way, men must show their love in practical terms to such an extent that there will be no doubt that they love their wives.

Note that the Bible didn’t say abandon your family and friends, but you are to leave them and cleave to your wife in a lifelong union built on the sure foundation of the word of God.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the grace to love my spouse unconditionally.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Mark 1-3

HYMN 12: IN CHRIST ALONE MY HOPE IS FOUND

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light, my strength, my song

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My Comforter, my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! Who took on flesh

Fullness of God in helpless babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay

Light of the world by darkness slain

Then bursting forth in glorious Day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No gift in life, no fear in death

This is the power of Christ in me

From life’s first cry to final breath

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the love of Christ I’ll stand.

DATE: FRIDAY 14TH MAY, 2021.

THEME: THE POWER OF PRAYER.

MEMORISE:

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:”

(1 John 5:14)

READ: 1 John 5:14-15 (KJV)

14. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us;

15. And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

MESSAGE:

There is power behind asking and receiving. If you do not believe this, read the story of Jesus and the boy who was possessed by a demon in Matthew 17:14-21.

Only a child of God can decree a thing and it shall be established as promised in Job 22:28.

This is why it is important to be born again. The boldness to ask in faith and the power to receive belong to God, and He freely gives them to His children.

Romans 8:26 says:

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Going by the Scripture above, there is a need to be filled with the Holy Spirit if we would get this divine power.

In other words, the power of prayer is given by the Holy Spirit. Jesus disciples found it difficult to pray effectively when the Holy Spirit had not come upon them, as seen in Matthew 17:14-20.

However, when the Spirit came upon them, not only were they able to pray effectively, they also started decreeing mighty things (Acts 4:31).

You can also get this power to ask and receive, by resting on God’s promises as contained in His word.

For example, in John 16:23, Jesus said

“…Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.”

It is one thing to have the power to ask and it is another to have the power to receive.

Sometimes, when God gives out His Blessing to people, they may not have the power of sonship to receive them.

Peter almost missed his blessing but for the mercy of God. When he encountered Jesus at the lake of Gennesaret, he pleaded with Jesus to get away from him because he was guilt-ridden (Luke 5:8), whereas Jesus was actually offering him an apostolic office.

To get power to receive God’s benevolence, therefore, you must have faith in Jesus. You must also live a life free of sin (Psalm 66:18).

In addition to that, your prayer must not be married with lust or ulterior motives (James 4:3).

Beginning from now, you will be empowered to ask and receive in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the power to pray effectively so that whatever I decree here on earth shall be established Heaven.

THEME: HEARKEN UNTO GOD.

MEMORISE:

“Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:38)

READ: Mark 14:37-38 (KJV)

37. And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

38. Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

MESSAGE:

It is always good to pay close attention to instructions given by anyone you consider to be your guide or guardian.

More often, we miss many opportunities, breakthroughs and victories because we fail to pay attention to the details of the instructions given to us.

The apostles of old also struggled with this lack of adequate attention to detailed instructions and we must learn from them. When our Lord came face to face with the reality of the cross, He admitted that it was not an easy burden to bear (Mark 14:34).

There is only one way to pass the tests of these present times – prayer. He went to pray and told the disciples to do the same though not for Him, but themselves.

In our memory verse today, Jesus said they should watch and pray so as not to enter into temptation but they were busy sleeping.

At a point, Jesus was so moved by their insensitivity to the reality at hand that He said to Peter “Simon, sleepest thou? Couldest not thou watch one hour?”

(Mark 14:37).

Beloved, to make it to the end of our Christian race, let us pay close attention to the details of the Lord’s injunctions and we shall be glad we did.

When the Lord said “Bring ye all the tithes to the storehouse” – Malachi 3:10, He meant all the tithes. You do not need an Advanced Learners Dictionary to understand what ‘all means. It is clear that in this case, ‘all’ means everything that makes up one tenth of your income.

The Bible says in (1 Corinthians 11:6):

For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

Here, Apostle Paul did not say much on why a woman should cover her head while praying or prophesying.

However, a conscientious child of God would not press for too many details before she jumps at this simple instruction of covering the head while praying.

We should learn to hearken to the word of God whether it is convenient to do so or not.

Paying close attention to the details of God’s instructions can make the difference between speedy results and delayed blessings.

God asked Abraham to leave his entire family and he obeyed but not completely as he took Lot – his nephew along with him. The manifestation of God’s promise in the life of Abraham did not come to pass until Lot separated from him.

Hearken unto God.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the grace to pay attention to the details of Your instructions, even when I do not understand them fully, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Teach me Thy will;

And Thy rich promises
