Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE:   SUNDAY 9TH MAY 2021.

THEME: NO HOPELESSNESS IN GOD.

MEMORISE:

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

Job 14:7

READ:  2 Kings 4:1-7

1Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

MESSAGE:

When God steps into any situation, He turns things around. God can transform a debtor to someone who lends to nations, He can turn a destitute widow to the richest person in her community.

There is a beautiful story in the Scripture reading of today; it illustrates how God can change anyone's story provided the fellow is obedient. When you have an encounter with God, you only need to carry out the divine instructions given to you for your story to become a reference point of the wonders of God. The widow who had lost all hope, had an encounter with God through His prophet, Elisha and her story changed for good.

We can learn a few things from her. You would see that she desperately cried for help. Beloved, if any hopeless fellow will receive aid from the "Present Help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1), such a person must cry to God in desperation. God is eager to intervene in the affairs of those who will cry unto Him for help. Jeremiah 29 :13 says:

 "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Anyone who makes the effort to seek God will surely find him. However, as long as you decide to manage without crying to God in prayer, you will remain in your present condition. When you are truly tired of your situation, like the woman in the Bible reading of today, you will cry out to God in desperation. The Bible did not say the widow had a chat with Elisha, rather it says that she cried unto Him because she was in desperate need of a miracle. She did not murmur before the prophet, neither did she grumble to attract his attention nor seek the sympathy of the people. Instead, she cried out for divine intervention, got Heaven's attention and her problem was permanently solved.

As you cry to God today, He will answer you and every hopeless situation in your life will turn around for good. Hope will rise for you and you will sing a new song of victory in the mighty name of Jesus.

ACTION POINT:

Cry unto God today and ask Him to intervene in your situation.

 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 22-24.

 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

 HYMN 23: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING.

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Through eternal ages let His praises ring,

Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:

Standing, standing,

Standing on the promises of God my Savior;

Standing, standing,

I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I now can see

Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;

Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,

Standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,

Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,

Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,

Standing on the promises of God.

5. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,

Resting in my Savior as my all in all,

Standing on the promises of God.

DATE: SATURDAY 8TH MAY, 2021.

THEME: CONSISTENT SOWING.

MEMORISE:

“In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.”

(Ecclesiastes 11:6)

READ: 1 Kings 3:4,

1 Kings 8:63-64 (KJV)

1 KINGS 3:4

4. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

1 KINGS 8:63-64

63. And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.

64. The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings; because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

MESSAGE:

You must keep sowing if you want to experience abundance. This is because while the first seed may open the door to blessings; it takes persistent sowing to keep the door open permanently.

What opened the door of blessing for the widow of Zarephath was the first cake she made for Elijah, however, what kept the food flowing was that she kept on making food for God’s prophet every day.

Persistent giving will lead you to a life of unlimited abundance. Had the widow of Zarephath stopped giving by the third day, then her own source of supply could have dried up.

And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord. – (1 Kings 8:63)

The first time Solomon sacrificed to God, he offered a thousand burnt offerings (1 Kings 3:4).

However, as you would see from the Scripture above, God prospered him so much that he later sacrificed one hundred and forty-two thousand oxen. Solomon kept on increasing wealth because he kept on giving.

In the end, he became so rich that nobody could attempt to count the amount of silver he had.

In the name that is above every other, you will be so rich that only higher denominations like the hundred dollar note and its equivalent will make sense to you.

The mystery behind the abundance the widow of Zarephath experienced is her uncommon faith in God. She gave her only food to Elijah because she saw the importance of surrendering her future into the hands of his God.

Before this secret of abundant blessing works for you, you too must first surrender your life to Jesus, if you haven’t.

Then you must consistently sow the seed of righteousness, peace and love with diligence. Rest assured, your labour of love in life and ministry will not be in vain.

Every seed you are sowing with tears today will yield a continuous harvest to your credit in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, I commit my life into Your hand. Please, let my future be great, and let me enjoy a continuous harvest for the rest of my life, in the mighty name of Jesus.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Joshua 20-21

HYMN 30: WHEN UPON LIFE’S BILLOWS YOU ARE TEMPEST TOSSED.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,

When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,

Count your many blessings, name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

REFRAIN:

Count your blessings, name them one by one,

Count your blessings, see what God has done,

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?

Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?

Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,

And you will be singing as the days go by.

When you look at others with their lands and gold,

Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold,

Count your many blessings, money cannot buy

Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

So amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged, God is over all;

Count your many blessings, angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

THEME: WHAT YOU SOW, YOU WILL REAP!

MEMORISE:

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.                                                                                  2 Corinthians 9:6

READ:  2 Corinthians 9:6-8

6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

MESSAGE:

Many years ago, I give seven elders of the church some neckties I had been wearing previously, assuring them that the items were anointed. To the glory of God, whenever they ministered with those neckties on, miracles happened. However, not long after, I observed a trend; I started getting gifts of neckties. I asked God "Can't these people give me something other than neckties?" God said "Son, if you sow ties, you will reap ties". I immediately got the message and decided to start sowing shoes. I gave out a good number of shoes, among which were some of my favorites to some pastors who wore similar sizes. I expected a harvest of new shoes the month after but there was none. When another month rolled by and I still didn't get anything, I went to God. It was then that the Lord taught me another lesson; He said "Son if you plant maize, you can harvest it within three months, but if you plant yam, you have to wait a Iittle longer." James5:7 says:

 "Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain."

God said to me "The greater the quality of the seed sown, the more time you have to spend waiting for the harvest. The shoes you sowed are of greater value than the ties you gave out. Thus, you will have to wait a little longer. Once the harvest starts however, there would be no stopping it". Not long after, I began to get gifts of shoes - different sizes and colors. When the harvest eventually came in full, I was pleasantly surprised.

As a child of God, you must bear in mind that God is supreme, and He does as He pleases in alI situations and circumstances (Psalm 115:3). God may choose to act differently in terms of the nature, quantity and t1ming of individual's harvest. He can cause your harvest to come sooner or later than expected. What is certain however, is that if you have sown any seed, the harvest will come at God's appointed time. You will not miss your harvest, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please help me not to be weary in well-doing and help me to be more fruitful every day of my life.

 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 27-28.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

 HYMN 27: WE ARE NEVER NEVER WEARY OF THE GRAND OLD SONG

1. We are never, never weary of the grand old song;

Glory to God, Hallelujah;

We can sing it loud as ever, with our faith more strong;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

Refrain:

O, the children of the Lord have a right to shout and sing,

For the way is growing bright, and our souls are on the wing;

We are going by and by to the palace of the King!

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

2. We are lost amid the rapture of redeeming love

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

We are rising on its pinions to the hills above;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

3. We are going to a palace that is built of gold;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

Where the King in all His splendour we shall soon behold;

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

4. There we'll shout redeeming mercy in a glad, new song,

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

There we'll sing the praise of Jesus with the blood-washed throng,

Glory to God, Hallelujah!

MEMORISE:

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 23:1

READ:  I Kings 17:12-16

12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

 14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

 MESSAGE:

Since creation, God has continually been working on His creatures to achieve His purpose. Rather than create other men and women after Adam and Eve, Genesis 1:28 says God empowered the first family to multiply. God likes to use what He has created to meet the subsequent needs of His creatures.

In 1 Kings 17, God sent Elijah to the household of a widow who was preparing to eat her last meal, then die. There are a few lessons from this incident. First, her house was available for God to use as a point of contact for her household and the prophet. Your house will be a point of contact for the miraculous, in the mighty name of Jesus. One way of making your house a point of contact for the miraculous is by surrendering it for use as a House Fellowship center.  Peter did the same when Jesus asked him to surrender his boat for a preaching engagement (Luke 5:3). The boat later became a point of contact for the miraculous catch of a multitude of fish.

Secondly, God said "...I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. "The widow obeyed God's command despite the fact that it appeared difficult this was why she became a point of contact for the miraculous. Thirdly, she gave up the last handful of meal and little oil she had, and they became a point of contact through which she got her miracle. She was a sincere woman of faith. She seemed to be saying to herself, like David did in Psalm 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want (even though I surrendered my last meal to Him)". She exposed her last meal to the wonder-working God to work with and it became a Point of contact. This was the exact thing the lad in John 6:5-13 did, and he had a remnant of twelve basketsful on the loaves he lent Jesus Christ I pray that the Lord will feed you abundantly even in times of famine, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Beloved, your first point of contact is your relationship with Jesus. How is it at the moment? He wants to have an intimate relationship with you in holiness. If you are still living in sin, accept Jesus as your Savior. If you are His child already, stay connected and you too will experience miracles.

ACTION POINT:

Determine to lend to God by giving sacrificially to His work this year. You will experience God's glory in its fullness.

 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 25-26.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

 HYMN 28: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS.

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer!

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

Oh, what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged—

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful,

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,

Cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge—

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,

Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised

Thou wilt all our burdens bear;

May we ever, Lord, be bringing

All to Thee in earnest prayer.

Soon in glory bright, unclouded,

There will be no need for prayer—

Rapture, praise, and endless worship

Will be our sweet portion there.
