Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: FRIDAY 2 APRIL 2021

TOPIC: THE SPIRIT, THE WORD AND THE BLOOD

MEMORISE:

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” – (1 John 5:7)

READ: Hebrews 12:22-25 (KJV)

22. But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

23. To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

24. And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

25. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven;

MESSAGE:

The Spirit, the word (of God) and the blood (of Jesus) are three irresistible and potent weapons of spiritual warfare provided by God the Father for His children. John 6:63 says:

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

John 1:3 also talks about the immense power of the word. It says “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

This is why the word can put any abnormality in your life under control, just as He did in Genesis 1:1-3 bringing order to a world that had been full of chaos.

From Genesis 1:1-3, you would see that the Spirit and the word complemented each other to bring order on earth. However, sin altered the plan of God for man. It took the blood of Jesus to rescue man from eternal damnation. Beloved, it is only when you have allowed the atoning blood of Jesus to deal with sin in your life that you will experience salvation (Hebrews 9:28). This is when all evil and calamity, including death, would be rendered powerless in your life.

Thus, when a child of God is filled with the Holy Spirit as well as armed with the word of God and the blood of Jesus, we can say that victory is fully decided in his or her favour. Why then have some believers resigned themselves to defeat? Some are involved in sins so shameful that, when confronted, they say “It is the devil’s work”, as though John 10:10 had been erased from their Bible. These people do not honour God’s word by keeping it, so it can’t work for them.

When a so-called child of God blatantly disregards God’s word that says “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22) and he continues to engaged in sexual immorality, the word cannot work for him, the blood of Jesus would not avail for him. I pray that the Holy Spirit, the word of God and the blood of Jesus will work for you this season in Jesus’ name. For that to happen, you must ensure that you do not grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).

ACTION POINT:

Begin to put the word of God into proper application in your daily life. Plead the blood of Jesus on all negative situations in your life and do not grieve the Holy Spirit.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Numbers 14-15

HYMN 29 - WHAT CAN WASH AWAY MY SIN?

1. What can wash away my sin?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

What can make me whole again?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

REFRAIN:

Oh! precious is the flow

That makes me white as snow!

No other fount I know,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

2. For my pardon this I see

Nothing but the blood of Jesus;

For my cleansing this my plea;

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

3. Nothing can for sin atone,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus:

Naught of good that I have done,

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

4. This is all my hope and peace.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus:

This is all my righteousness;

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

DATE:  THURSDAY 1st of APRIL 2021.

THEME:   THE MEAL THAT REMINDS!

MEMORISE:

“And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me.” – (1 Corinthians 11:24)

READ: 1 Corinthians 11:23-29 (KJV)

23. For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread;

24. And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me.

25. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood; this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

26. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

27. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

MESSAGE:

One significant reason the Holy Communion (The Lord’s Supper) was inaugurated by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is revealed in our memory verse of today. When Jesus Christ says we should observe the Holy Communion often in remembrance of Him, it is because He knows what it took to die for His friends; He would not want that feat to be forgotten. There is the tendency to forget the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ which led to His death and resurrection.

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. – (Hebrews 6:6)

The reason for backsliding may not be unconnected with a believer’s loss of memory concerning the agony of death which the Saviour suffered for our salvation. The Bible says:

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. - (1 Timothy 4:6)

The story is told of a wretched hunter who by the stroke of grace became a king, though with a warning that he should not step out of his boundaries by entering into a room forbidden to kings. Many years into his reign, he felt that he was being unnecessarily restrained and decided to enter the room only to return to the old wretched position he had been in as a hunter. This is what happens when believers forget where they are coming from.

The Holy Communion should be taken as frequently as possible to enable us remember the death of our Lord Jesus Christ and the reason for it. The Bible says we should not be forgetful hearers but doers of the work (James 1:25). We announce the death and resurrection of our Lord without having to preach it when we gather to commemorate it through the Holy Communion. Everyone is compelled to examine himself or herself so that he or she does not eat to damnation, according to our text of today, Paul the apostle wrote further that we should remember that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead after His passion and death; that If we also endure as He did, we shall reign with him (2 Timothy 2:8-12). May the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ avail for us through eternity in Jesus’ name.

REFLECTION:

Examine yourself to know whether or not you are still in the faith.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

2 Thessalonians 1-3

AUTHOR: Pastor E A ADEBOYE

HYMNAL:

HYMN 7 - HAVE YOU BEEN TO JESUS FOR THE CLEANSING POWER?

1. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

REFRAIN:

Are you washed in the blood,

In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?

Are your garments spotless?

Are they white as snow?

Are you washed in the blood goof the Lamb?

2. Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

3: When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white!

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Will your soul be ready for His presence bright,

And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

4:Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,

And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;

There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,

O be washed in the blood of the Lamb.

THEME:  DO NOT DESPISE PROPHECIES II.

MEMORISE:

Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me forever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that   honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed                                                            1 Samuel 2:30

READ:  1 Samuel 2:27-36

27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

MESSAGE:

One reason the Lord may be telling you of a future event is so that you can do what is required for it to come to pass. For such prophecies, no matter how accurate they are, if you don't play your part; they would not come to pass.

I heard a story about two friends who went to enquire about their future from the village chief priest. The priest told one that he would become a king, while he told the other that he was destined to become a servant to his friend - the future king. The former went home rejoicing and decided that all he had to do was wait to be crowned king. The latter however, determined that he was not going to end up a servant. He went deep into the forest - where he had access to hectares of land and decided to start a farm. This man worked hard; clearing, planting, praying and God rewarded him with a bountiful harvest.

Years later, the village experienced a famine, and the villagers came to him as the news of his bountiful harvest had spread all through the land. They said to the young man "Please give us food and we will make you our king". He agreed and they made him the king. Later on, the other young man who the oracle had said would become king also came begging for food. He cried to him "Please king, give me some food and I will be your servant".

The prophecy came: one did something about it while the other did nothing. Eventually, it was the

one who acted wisely that was favored.

Beloved, it does not matter how great your destiny is, it does not matter how many great prophecies you have received concerning your future, if you are not ready to work, those prophecies will not come to pass. In fact, the greater the prophecy, the greater the work that must be done. God did not show you that great future just so that you can relax. He showed you so that you can do what is required; don't despise that.

Now, you may have been working hard towards that great destiny God has shown you, but it seems as though it would never become a reality. Don't worry, as long as you are sure that you are on the right path, everything will soon fall into place, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:

Father give me the grace to do all that is required for Your prophecies concerning me to come to pass in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Thessalonians 1-5

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 12:  IN CHRIST ALONE.

In Christ alone my hope is found,

He is my light, my strength, my song;

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace,

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!

My Comforter, my All in All,

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,

Fullness of God in helpless babe.

This gift of love and righteousness,

Scorned by the ones He came to save:

Till on that cross as Jesus died,

The wrath of God was satisfied –

For every sin on Him was laid;

Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,

Light of the world by darkness slain:

Then bursting forth in glorious day

Up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine –

Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me;

From life’s first cry to final breath,

Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand:

Till He returns or calls me home,

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE:   TUESDAY 30TH MARCH 2021.

THEME:  DO NOT DESPISE PROPHECIES I.

MEMORISE:

Despise not prophesyings.                                                                                        1 Thessalonians 5:20

READ:  Amos 3:6-8

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

MESSAGE:

When a prophesy comes - I mean a genuine prophecy, it is because the person prophesying has received some insight into the future. God may give a person a prophesy directly or through someone else; whichever the case, He always has a reason for revealing the future. However, 1f the   person despises the prophesy, he or she may never see its fulfilment.

Godsends us prophecies for different reasons. Sometimes, it is merely for our information; however, there are times when we are required to act on it.

Sometime ago, there were two major candidates running for the office of the President in Nigeria and both were Muslims. During a meeting of the Nigerian Pentecostal Preachers, the matter was raised as to who we should encourage Christians in Nigeria to vote for. When asked for my opinion, I said "God has already told me the result of the election. God said the fellow who will win the election will be the loser and the one who will lose the election will be the winner." So, I didn't bother my members as to who to vote for and when things eventually began to play out in the country, I was relaxed because I already had the information ahead of time.

However, for some other prophecies, God requires that you act on them. Sometimes He reveals the plans of the devil and you need to pray to cancel them. There was a woman who relayed a dream in which her husband (who had just travelled) was brought back in a coffin. I asked if her husband was born again, and she said 'yes' so I prayed with her that the husband would not die. A few days later, I saw an obituary in the newspaper and the man who had died had the same surname as this sister. On enquiry, I discovered that it was another member of her husband's family who had died; the fellow wasn't born again. Death had planned to take her husband, God however exposed the plan in her dream, we prayed, and the husband lived.  Imagine if she had despised the warning from God. ls there anything God has told or shown you recently that you need to pray against? You had better pray today so as destroy the plans of the enemy.

If you are a child of God and you do not hear from Him, ask Him to start speaking to you from today (1 Corinthians 12:31). However, if you are not yet His child, give your life to Him now so He can begin to speak to you also.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, help me to always hear from You and to know what You would have me do In Jesus' name.

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.
