 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: TUESDAY 16TH FEBRUARY 2021.

THEME:  GIVE CHEERFULLY.

MEMORISE:

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: For God loveth a cheerful giver.                                                                                              2 Corinthians 9:7

READ:  2 Corinthians 9:6-8

6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

MESSAGE:

I see some people's reaction when it is offering time and I wonder if they know whom the offering is for at all. God is not broke and He is not a beggar. He doesn't need your money. We see m Haggai 2:8 that silver and gold are His. If you have the opportunity to give Him an offering, you should do so rejoicing. Imagine meeting one of the richest men in the world at a restaurant and he requests that you help pay for

his meal because he did not have his wallet on him, with a promise to refund you. would you give him the money grudgingly? You know he is not asking for the money because he is poor; indeed, he

would refund your money and most likely add some extra. In fact, you may not even be interested in getting the money back, you might just see it as a privilege that you had an opportunity to give to him. Why then do you treat God like a beggar when asked to give an offering?

I will never forget a Church I attended outside Nigeria. It was the first time I was attending that Church and the entire place looked very beautiful. All the members were shining as they came to Church. With the way everyone was looking so radiant I concluded "God must have really prospered these people". Then l observed something: when the Pastor got up and said, "It is offering time", everybody jumped up and began to rejoice. The Holy Spirit then said to me ''That is their secret; they are cheerful givers".

Many years ago, I was at a Church where they requested for several kinds of offerings. The offerings were so many that at a point I grumbled before reaching for my pocket and I heard God say in an angry tone "Keep your money". I quickly apologized for grumbling and immediately became cheerful. I became even more cheerful when He later on permitted me to give my offering. If you decide to never give offerings or tithes again, the work of God will still go on. When Elijah went to the widow of Zarephath and asked her for a meal, it was not Elijah who was in need, it was the widow. In 1 Kings 19 an angel brought food and water to Elijah. There was nothing stopping the angel from giving him food and water every day; however, God sent Elijah to her because He wanted to meet her need. The cattle upon a thousand hills belong to God. If He asks you to give Him something, it is because He wants to bless you.

I hope your attitude towards giving to God will improve from now.

KEY POINT:

Every opportunity to give to God Is an opportunity to be blessed by Him; rejoice in it.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:  Leviticus 26-27

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 1:  MUST I GO AND EMPTY HANDED

1.       “Must I go, and empty-handed,”

Thus my dear Redeemer meet?

Not one day of service give Him,

Lay no trophy at His feet?

Refrain:

“Must I go, and empty-handed?”

Must I meet my Savior so?

Not one soul with which to greet Him,

Must I empty-handed go?

2.       Not at death I shrink or falter,

For my Savior saves me now;

But to meet Him empty-handed,

Thought of that now clouds my brow.

3.       Oh, the years in sinning wasted,

Could I but recall them now,

I would give them to my Savior,

To His will I’d gladly bow.

4.       Oh, ye saints, arouse, be earnest,

Up and work while yet ’tis day;

Ere the night of death o’ertake thee,

Strive for souls while still you may.

Open Heavens Daily Devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: MONDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2021.

THEME:  DON'T BE FOOLISH.

MEMORISE:

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.                    Matthew4:7

READ:  Numbers 14:22- 30

22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

26 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

MESSAGE:

Many years ago, I visited a zoo in Ibadan, Nigeria and I was told the story of a certain prophet who jumped into the lion's cage to prove that he had the same power as Daniel. The lions ate him up in spite of the huge cross he carried with him. One major difference between that man and Daniel is that the latter did not jump into the lions' den to tempt God; he was thrown into it for praying to God. God, however, didn't only save Daniel; He also prospered him and wiped out his accusers (Daniel 6:1-26).

Mark 16:18 says:

They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Does this mean that you should deliberately drink poison? No. What God is saying in the passage above is that if someone tries to poison you, the poison will not harm you.

It is foolishness to tempt God. This is the trap the devil set before Jesus Christ in Matthew 4:5-7, when he told Him to jump off the pinnacle of the temple, reminding Him that the Bible says God's angels will not allow His foot to be dashed against a stone. Jesus escaped this trap by quoting Deuteronomy 6: 16: Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God...

Tempting God provokes His wrath and also limits what He wants to do in the life of His children.

“How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.”             Psalm 78:40- 41

As we see in our Bible reading today, the children of Israel tempted God in the wilderness with their unbelief, murmuring and Idolatry. This limited God's plans for their lives and prevent them from entering the Promised Land with the exception of Caleb and Joshua who had faith in Him. It is indeed foolishness to tempt God.

Are you tempting God?

PRAYER POINT:

Lord please forgive me for every time I have tempted You and help me never to do it again.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:  Leviticus 24-25

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 21:  ROCK OF AGES, CLEFT FOR ME.

1.       Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee;

Let the water and the blood,

From Thy wounded side which flowed,

Be of sin the double cure,

Save from wrath and make me pure.

2.       Not the labor of my hands

Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;

Could my zeal no respite know,

Could my tears forever flow,

All for sin could not atone;

Thou must save, and Thou alone.

3.       Nothing in my hand I bring,

Simply to Thy cross I cling;

Naked, come to Thee for dress;

Helpless, look to Thee for grace;

Foul, I to the fountain fly;

Wash me, Savior, or I die.

4.       While I draw this fleeting breath,

When my eyes shall close in death,

When I rise to worlds unknown,

And behold Thee on Thy throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Let me hide myself in Thee.

 OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2021.

THEME:  SPIRITUAL ADULTERY.

MEMORISE:

For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.                                                               Isaiah 54:5

READ:  Hosea 2:2-5

2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

MESSAGE:

The relationship between God and man can be likened to that of a husband and his wife. Paul confirms this when he enjoined husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church (Ephesians 5:25). This is why God punishes anyone caught in spiritual adultery. For example, He punished the Israelites in Judges 2:11,13-14:

“And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim: ... And they forsook the Lord and served Baal and Ashtaroth. And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they  could not any longer stand before their enemies.”

Just like a man could be jealous over the relationship of his wife with another man, when we serve other gods besides Him, God becomes very jealous (Exodus 20:5). The spiritual adultery committed by the children of Israel can be likened to the relationship between Hosea and Gomer- a professional harlot-turned-wife. The patience of Hosea with Gomer (who was always going back to her horedom like a dog that goes back to its vomit) also illustrates God's patience with His people who court the friendship of the world.

1 John 2:15 says:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

Our love cannot be shared between God and the temporary things of this world. Jesus confirms this in Luke 16:13, where He said:

"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Attempting to love God   and the world at the same time will lead to rejection and shame (Revelation 3:15-16).

beloved, beware of spiritual adultery, as it would only lead to eternal damnation. Stick to Jesus Christ, the Lover of your soul.

PRAYER POINT:

Father please forgive me of any spiritual adultery I might have committed against You. I promise to remain faithful to You until the very end.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:  Leviticus 19 -21

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 14:  JESUS MY LORD, MY GOD MY ALL.

Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all!

How can I love Thee as I ought?

And how revere this wondrous gift,

So far surpassing hope or thought?

Refrain:

Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore!

Oh, make us love Thee more and more.

Oh, make us love Thee more and more.

2. Had I but Mary's sinless heart

With which to love Thee, dearest King,

Oh, with what ever fervent praise,

Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!

3. Thy Body, Soul and Godhead, all!

O mystery of love divine!

I cannot compass all I have,

For all Thou hast and art is mine!

4. Sound, then, His praises higher still,

And come, ye angels, to our aid;

For this is God, the very God

Who hath both men and angels made!
